I have 2002 Rodeo too and my manual has nothing
about the oil base. It advices 5W-30, actially,
SH SEA rating - that's it. Actually, it is
almost illegal for a manufacturer to specify
an oil base: if an engine needs SH oil, it MUST
work properly on ANY oil of this quality,
regardless it's base material.

BMW, Mercedes or VW, for example. You will be
surprised, especially by BMW's figures.

Remember that Isuzu makes trucks and their engines
are more loaded.

Mine uses very minor amount of oil, and the
consumption is getting less.

My first time running a poll and I guess I did it poorly but there are also limitations since there are only 2 questions/answers allowed.
The q&a are:
1)Model and Engine Type for 98+ trucks
a. Amigo,Rodeo,Rodeo Sports - 3.2L V6
b. Axiom,Trooper,Vx - 3.5L V6
2)Approximate oil consumption @3k miles
a. 1 quart
b. 2 quarts

I guess a better #2 answers are:
a: 0 - 1 quart
b: > 1

Folks can also be more specific by replying to this thread - vote or no vote.I'll try to get the results tallied in about a month or so. Thanks to all that participated.

'conventional dyno oil' ? I do not mind
10W-30, I mind the idea that 'dyno is
recommended by user manual'.

As for the 5W-30 vs 10W-30, all high-quality
5W-30 can be used everywhere 10W-30 can be used.

Holger- sorry you interpreted it that way . I should have said "(which is the VISCOSITY the owners manual recommends)" I was NOT implying that the manual says you MUST run dino oil. The manual makes no dino or synthetic reference at all. It makes NO difference if you choose to use synthetic or dino motor oil - use whatever you like, so long as it meets the API specs & viscosity ranges per the manual, or risk voiding your warranty .

Survey says:
....little short on choices. My '98 Amigo 3.2 uses no oil between 3000 mile changes.

Could not get the poll to come up, so here is my poll feedback.

I have an '02 Rodeo, 3.2L with roughly 26Kmi. I use about 3/4qt. of oil every 3000mi. I just had it to the dealer for this to find out what was going on. I've never had a "Japanese" built engine use any oil. They told me it was normal. I find this hard to believe.

Speaking of oil, what kind of mileage intervals do most of you use for oil changes? My manual states 7500mi. All my previous vehicles typically ran the usual 3K-4Kmi interval. My wifes Volvo also states a 7500mi change interval. Have engine designs changed/improved that much?

Thanks,
Rich
