Guys: I want to improve my troopers headlights for less than $100. What's the word on bulbs? I've heard xenon, halogen, plasma, silverstar are all the best and brightest. Whats the real deal?

The real deal is real Xenon lights, not the crappy imitation(sp) like painted blue "xenon" or "plasma" bulbs, or just get a set of off-road or driving lights. The Real Xenon is not just a bulb, it is HID high intensity discharge which comes with ballast and starter, normal the bulb is 30W but give more lights then 100W halogen, and the life is much much more. Now if you want real Xenon look for Philips or Hella balast they come at one piece with the starter and the price is around $300 for set of 2.
If you need to know more you can ask.

I just replace the lights in my 98 troop and wifes 94 lebaron convertible with silverstars. Checkers had them for around $49 (including a free collectible nascar matchbox racecar ). The new bulbs made quite a difference for not a lot of cash.

I'm with DoctorC. I installed the silverstars and am pretty impressed. As far as a simple bulb change is concerned, I don't think there's any better (legal anyway). There's a good article on lighting in this month's Motor Trend. I believe it said the reflector & optics were important and there are limited applications available.

I can't help with any good input but would like to briten up Joe's OEM.Didn't mean to hijack your post

Ever since I first saw a set of those things, I have been meaning to ask if anyone out there was running them, and what was their opinion of them. --- So far, it sounds like they might be just the thing for me to brighten-up the road aheadà and a much cheaper alternative than shelling-out $300+ semolians for the real thing.
Oh, and I have some good news! Tonight I saw a boxed pair of 9004 SilverStars in the automotive department at Wal-Martà And for only $34.97! (Sorry, but there wasnÆt a fifteen-dollar NASCAR toy included. )
Cheers! Smiley
Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.

I run PIAAs in my car. $97 but DAMN I love them. In my Luv I did a Halogen modular conversion from the sealed beams, and am running the Cool Blue bulbs from Sylvania. A huge improvement over Sealed beam incandescent, but I don't know how yours are now... [ July 05, 2003, 11:10 PM: Message edited by: Kuranosuke ]

Sorry! That issue of M/T must have been on my desk longer than I thought. According to their website it was the May issue. The article can be found here also Motor Trend Headlight Article . Let there be light!
