I have 167k miles on my 1994 3.2 DOHC. It uses almost no oil, and has no annoyances that I can think of.

Because of the nature of the lifters on the DOHC engines vs. SOHC engines, the DOHC engines aren't prone to the same ticking problems.

DOHC:

SOHC:

Notice the complex rocker arm system on the SOHC? That contains the hydraulic lifters, which can get dirty and cause the ticking sound. In the DOHC each cam sits right on top of the valve stems, with just a solid "shim" between the cam and the valve stem. Nothing to get dirty and possibly collapse.
