don't kid yourself, the DOHC does tick. it has hydraulic valve lash adjusters, similar to lifters but not technically the same. shake a bush and twenty DOHC owners with ticking problems will fall out. having said that, most of us have had good luck flushing and running synthetic oils that in many cases have cured the ticking problems. i use mine to tow my 3,000# boat and my pop-up with no trouble. it's torquey and loves to run hard. many have had trouble with intake gaskets but apparently that's not too hard to fix either.
