I have the Helm, too, and it does assume some experience. But it makes up for it in detail in which the Haynes sometimes doesn't with drawings of exploded axles, hubs and transfer cases! Don't get me wrong, I think the Haynes a great (it was really helpful with my last vehicle) and will get one when they come out - I've been waiting a long time for that. But the Helm was worth the $100.

Open your hood, turn the key to on and then try the pump. If you hear it, it works. If not, well....

Last time I did this on my 00 Amigo (which is the the same as a Rodeo- just shorter), the wiper blades decided they wanted to move too, and the wiper arms scraped up (down to bare paint) the leading edge of the hood. It's a good idea and will definitely help you diagnose. Just put some tape on the wiper arms or on the edge of the hood when it's up. Just a thought.

RE: The Helm Manual
I was the only one available and it does lack the info on telling you HOW to do stuff. By my very limited mechanical mind was able to figure out specs and stuff just looking at the very complete pictures. If you do go with the HELM, get the one with the wiring diagram. It's been a HUGE help.
