Hmm all the Uhauls I've rented have hydrolic surge brakes, not sure if it's single or on both axles. Either way they've always worked well for me. Luckily I have the AT which is pretty beefy. I wouldn't reccomend doing the 6600lb towing unless it was absolutely necessary.

I'm pretty sure Troopers from 88+ have discs all around.

Roll Me Over
Troopers began having 4 wheel discs in '89. In fact I am in the midst of changing my rear rotors, calipers and pads. As soon as I finish my morning latte fix, I will complete the job.

FWIW, the brake change for Trooper happened in 1988.5 when they went to the 12-bolt axle.

Also, you can get an Isuzu Homber (yeah, I know -- it is an S-10) with drum brakes, as well.

Just goes to show that there are no absolute rules, just generalizations. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />

We have a 2000 2wd Rodeo in my family, with a rear D44, AND rear discs. Thats how I was able to compare the stopping distances and its amazing how much less noise dive the 4-wheel discs have as opposed to rear drums.

He came down to tow me at a moments notice, blew of plans and everything.

Not just any one would do that, hell I could still be waiting to come home if it was up to some of my other friends.

So thanks again Mike. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Anytime buddy!

We need to weigh your truck so I can get an accurite measurement of how much weight it actually towed! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Mike,

For reference, my stock (w/ all options) auto 3.5 99 Montero weighed 4930 on the scale. It had slightly oversized tires, fogs, and a bit of gear for a likely total of 75lbs over it's stock weight. As a loaded model, it also had perhaps 150lbs of options over a stock model.

4play,

The type of brakes do not impact the amount of nose dive in any way.
