Body Damage is Cool
A recall on the A-arms cracking IMHO is bad. A Cracked A-arm isn't something I'd like to see on my car. I've finally realized that GM is planning on taking Isuzu out of the NA market. Look at the options you can get from Isuzu on Troopers in Japan http://isuzu-suvs.com/bighorn/ if we had those options here, I'd bet that there would be a ton more Troopers sold.
The comment "I guess my fit and finish is bad too cause my rodeo is made in Indiana" the fit and finish doesn't have to do with where it's assembled, it has to do with who designed and built it. Take a malibu and a camary, they both come from the same factory but the camary is far more reliable.
-mike
------------------
'97 Rodeo -> '00 Trooper LS
ECB Nudge Bar, Hella 4000s Eurobeam w/City Light, Hidden Hitch, Hella Triple Trumpet Horns, OME Rear Springs, Rancho 9000 Shocks, Tinted Front Windows
'88 Subaru XT6
'88 Mazda MX6
http://isuzu-suvs.com

That's why they're called safety recalls. IIRC, about 5 out of 7 of the aforementioned recalls were safety recalls. And I doubt any more troopers would be sold here if those accessories were available. Most troopers sold here are grocery getters(very unfortunate, but true, nonetheless) and aftermarket accessories are an afterthought.
The comment "I guess my fit and finish is bad too cause my rodeo is made in Indiana" the fit and finish doesn't have to do with where it's assembled, it has to do with who designed and built it. Take a malibu and a camary, they both come from the same factory but the camary is far more reliable.

The malibu-camry statement is just plain 'ole opinion. OK, well maybe not, but I'd like to see some facts to back it up.
The Amigo is built in Indiana, right? so, who designed and built it? Well, the Japanese may have designed it, but it was definitely built here... Then again, I'm sure GM put in their two cents into the design, seeing as how they own 49% of Isuzu, and we get Dana 44's. (is that a bad thing?) Of course, I'm not arguing, because the "fit and finish" on my truck does suck. Panels have started falling off from inside, the hood rattles like crazy even after I adjusted it, the sunroof panel kept falling off even after the recall on the clips were fixed, and various other annoyances. I guess those would be design flaws. And the finish has everything to do with where it's built. Do you seriouly think that the paint was shipped all the way from Japan?
Nonetheless, I'm not trying to argue, as we all know, opinions are like a$$holes... Besides, in all reality, Isuzu small trucks have been doomed for a good 5 years now anyways, and this probably will be the first step into the "phase-out" stage. And, yes, that part does suck. But there's not a whole lot we can do about it, right? Right.
Rusty
Ummm, what was the topic again?
Sorry Travis
Oh yeah, diesels rule [Linked Image]
[This message has been edited by Silent Bob (edited 14 June 2001).]

Tis true, there is nothing we can do about it. Wow I guess all the rumors I've heard about the '98->'01 Rodeos is true then. Cause the build on my '97 Rodeo was outstanding, heck if the buyout on my lease wasn't 19K I'd have bought it when I turned it in. I still miss that truck [Linked Image] My point about the accessories are that they aren't aftermarkt, they are actual Isuzu products, if they incorportated some of the higher end items into the trucks from the get-go here they could have competed with the MLs, MDXs, etc. But then again, like we all know GM is basically doing a slow pump and dump type scheme, buy your competition out, then steel their good technology, and let the company slide down-hill. I anticipate the same fate happening once they steel away SOAs AWD system, and boxer engines to put in the SAAB lineup.
-mike
------------------
'97 Rodeo -> '00 Trooper LS
ECB Nudge Bar, Hella 4000s Eurobeam w/City Light, Hidden Hitch, Hella Triple Trumpet Horns, OME Rear Springs, Rancho 9000 Shocks, Tinted Front Windows
'88 Subaru XT6
'88 Mazda MX6
http://isuzu-suvs.com

3/50K BtoB warranty
10/120K Powertrain warranty
They are about the only reasons to get an Isuzu re-badge, also Isuzu will probably do the body and interior so it may be a hair better and less optional stuff, Isuzu usually bundles everything together better.
-mike
------------------
'97 Rodeo -> '00 Trooper LS
ECB Nudge Bar, Hella 4000s Eurobeam w/City Light, Hidden Hitch, Hella Triple Trumpet Horns, OME Rear Springs, Rancho 9000 Shocks, Tinted Front Windows
'88 Subaru XT6
'88 Mazda MX6 http://isuzu-suvs.com
[This message has been edited by paisan (edited 15 June 2001).]

To be honest it wouldnÆt sway me towards the isuzu. I like my Trooper for the Ride/Suspension and the feel. My Trooper has a stiff ride but on the highway it is smooth. The trooper also communicates very well with the driver better then any GM truck I have ever driven. The Isuzu trooper has the unique ability to fit just about anything you like in it, But not have that numb big truck feel. I had every intention of buying a new trooper in a few years, But If it is not an Isuzu platform I will probably look at the Mitsubishi Montero..

Doug

I hear you, unless it comes with the Duramax Diesel (which you never know if GM will yank it out of Isuzus at the last minute) I'll likely go for a TLC or Monty sometime in the future.
-mike
------------------
'97 Rodeo -> '00 Trooper LS
ECB Nudge Bar, Hella 4000s Eurobeam w/City Light, Hidden Hitch, Hella Triple Trumpet Horns, OME Rear Springs, Rancho 9000 Shocks, Tinted Front Windows
'88 Subaru XT6
'88 Mazda MX6
http://isuzu-suvs.com
