As far as the tire having to be an LT rated tire in reference to load range, just remember that stock tires are 'P' 245/70/16. LT's will provide a heavier load range and stiffer sidewalls. Go into the search feature and look for topics about tire fit, you should find some good comments. My opinion only...don't get hung up on LT only rated tires. From what you said in your post, your off roading is limited. I have a 99 Rodeo and upgraded my shocks and am running a stock size all-terrain tire. I still go lots of places and have tons of fun.
