WOW! I've got a dealer just 20 miles from my house! Bet he craps his pants when I park my Troop next to his silly little wagon. Oh wait, I can't park next to one-they aren't here!! All sarcasm aside, it would be a great rig if it had a solid axle up front and disc's in the rear. Did anyone check the spec's? The wheelbase is only 92.5" that's not a Defender 110 it's not even a Suzuki Vitara !! Please don't shoot me for saying this, but if you want a solid axle 4 door SUV with a warranty for under 20K, your best bet is a used Cherokee. But this Crosslander DOES look cool, and the diesel makes you think for sure. Actually it's making me think how bad I want a first gen Trooper with Auto Trans, solid axle, and a diesel swap!!!

Here's a quote on their warrantee: Cross Lander Vehicle Warranty Cross Lander U.S.A. provides a New Vehicle Bumper to Bumper limited Warranty to every new owner. The vehicle is warranted for repairs, including parts and labor to correct problems in material or workmanship for 3 years or 36,000 miles.
Crosslander Accessory Warranty All Cross Lander accessories have been designed and developed specifically for your new vehicle. The Cross Lander accessories are backed with the same 3 year/36,000 mile New Vehicle Bumper to Bumper Warranty when installed at the factory.*
Replacement Parts Warranty Replacement parts installed by a Cross Lander dealer are covered for 1 year or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
*Note that those Cross Lander accessories installed after delivery will carry a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty.
If I read the USA web site correctly, here's the status: A new to the USA, new to the market, new car company, first vehicle built, unproven history from South America with a 36k warrantee. Of course, Brazil's reputation for hard work and high manufacturing quality is right up there with (pick one) a. Germany (BMW/Mercedes) b. Japan (Honda/Toyota) c. Former Yugoslavia (Yugo)
I think their reputation is more for parties, beaches and thongs. (Sandle/flip-flop thongs is what I mean, of course.)
Even Kia, Hyundai, and Isuzu have 100k warrantes on vehicles with trackable vehicle repair histories.
First to buy a new car from them? It *might* be quality. Might as well place your bets.....

Hello! I just talked to Chris Warren at Cross Lander and he reports it will debut in the U.S. in Feburary. I told him about you guys and invited him here to answer some question if he wanted. I also invited him to Moab VI with the thing.(Repaired my typo, dislexia cannot be a friend sometimes) He said he would be interested in doing that. They are real excited about the opportunity to present this thing to the "Real" Off Road Crowd and get our impressions. (That's us Types, I believe) We talked for quite a while and we can contact him at CWarren@CrossLander4x4.com. (I think that link will work or a variation of it)I haven't tried it yet.
The following is without Randii's blessing... (He wouldn't answer his phone so I could check if thes was OK to post), but here goes.
So if you guys would like to see these trucks at Moab give him an invite, so that he will know I'm not just blowing smoke. Since I don't have any legal affilitation to 4X4 Wire. Just another Off Road nut with a blue tipped wrench. CJ [ December 05, 2002, 01:37 PM: Message edited by: Curtis Johnson ]

Hey fellow Tarheels, anyone up to the task to scope 'em out, these are in the western part of the state. Cross Lander U.S.A. 4x4 Dealer List -------------------------------------------------- Carolina Cross Lander 2009 Barnes Street Reidsville NC 27320 1-800-255-4595 Hickory Cross Lander 161 Hwy 70 SE Hickory, NC 28603 1-800-880-9171 I'm not in the know on the automotive industry, and certainly not in the Brasilian industry, but in recently completing a research paper for my English class on Roundabouts, I noted that Sao Paulo, Brazil is home to over 5 million, yes thats 5,000,000, vehicles in and around Sao Paulo. I note this since their gallery shows pics from the Sao Paulo Auto Show. "Rush hour traffic jams in Sao Paulo, Brazil average a mind-boggling 53 miles in length, according to the city Traffic Engineering Dept. Sao Paulo’s population fluctuates between 16 and 24 million people, and is home to 5.1 million cars" Now, where I'm heading with this is that, I would think (read: knee-jerk reaction ) that one would not even think of introducing a new model/design in such a market if it didn't offer some type of appeal/functionality due to the apparent competition. Note that quality is not necessarily a priority but with an International motor and an Eaton trannie, there might be something there. Having never been to S.A., I wouldn't know, but it's my understanding the road systems in S.A. are not the best in the world by far, so a capable 4x4 is almost a necessity? They cram as many bodies in and on the cars trucks motorcycles as they can get and go for it, hell bent for leather.
I have a feeling that for $20K your gonna get a very stout truck. The short term Warrenty may be a reflection to the other 80% of the worlds driving habits. Besides, a new auto maker has a lot at stake here. If they get the Yugo reputation then they aren't going to be here long. CJ

I don't know where the 'standard' measurement would be made, but the CrossLander is listed at 7.8 inches for ground clearance.
My '91 Trooper LS came in at around 8.5 inches with the stock 15x6 alloys and the same 235/75R15 tires as listed for the CrossLander. This was measured on a level shop floor and from the floor to the bottom of the shock mount on the rear. From the floor to the bottom of the U-Bolt bracket, it was dead on 8.75 inches.
Hmm.
Anyone notice the snorkel, pretty cool. What's with the grate looking things on top of the fenders? Hood looks cool with the air vents, but I like the scoop often found on diesels.
Cheers,

I was thinking the fenders have some sort of "non-skid" surface for standing up there. Otherwise not sure what it's for.
