19 years active duty and counting. First 5 years were Air Force fixing F-15s at Holloman AFB New Mexico. Then I became a Navy pilot and have been on the west coast ever since. I have over 300 carrier landings and have cruised on most of the west coast carriers. 19 years has passed in a wink of an eye and most of the time I can't believe I get paid to have as much fun as I do. You just can't beat zero to 150 mph in just under two seconds

Unfotrunately, you'll have to count me as one of the "also trieds". I joined the Army ROTC at the University of Notre Dame (in 1991) and was in a year and well on my way to doing a second year when they asked me to leave b/e of a non-waivable medical condition (d@mn military budget cuts). Yes, Paddler, funny how many of the "scholarshipped" cadets were trying to figure out ways to not service their committments. Heck, I would have (and still would) done it for free, if they'd of had me.

Later,
Dave

BTW, welcome to the forum Mike.

1. You have another reason to keep you out. For three years I've been working on a security clearance for a guy who worked in China for about a year. He teaches their pilots how to fly better (When they bumped into our spy plane, we all gave him a hard time). I'd pay to see the look on the recruiters face when they went over your history.
2. He came back with a wife. He's also hailed as a hero in their village since he personally paid to run electricity to it. The story on how to get there is funny enough: You take the bus to the train, the train to some town far away, the bus to the end of the line, then look for a donkey cart because it's halfway up the mountain... However, if you're looking for hero status (or a wife) I can get you directions, and they still need running water...

I have to add 4 days to my total mil time. Instead of my companies free holiday party (defense biz is still doing good) I went to North Carolina to train with my unit. Flew in: Clear skies. Flew out: Clear skies. 2 days training in chem suits: rain, turning us black from the charcoal powder. The color of freedom.

Never been to the mainland before now. My grandfather was a high ranking officer in the KMT and fled to Taiwan with the family in 1949. They wouldn't waive my asthma. Such is life. Donkey cart??? Haven't seen those here in the ghetto.
