I enlisted in the USMC in '75. I was in basic at MCRD San Diego and was discharged before graduating due to medical reasons. I will never forget my experiences while in basic training. It was great meeting everyone from all parts of the western and southern U.S. At that time, I recalled that I was only one of two asian faces around the Depot. Although short, my experiences with Marine basic had instilled a sense of "can do attitude" in me, this carried me through many challenges. Semper Fi!

Joe

A little old lady once asked me why I have those big heavy bumpers on my truck, I responded "if I bump into something, I win!!" "BTW, I did bump into a Chev Minvan at about 30 MPH...it lost!"

....and 3 years to go to sweet, sweet retirement. (I joined late 86)

There's a retired marine in our townhouse area.
$2k / month disability from military (tax free). He has a cane; survived a helicopter crash.

$2k / month in retirement for his post-military career with post office.

Just started 1k/year in social security.

All three cost of living index raised every year.

He makes more in retirement than he did working.
(Note: This is not criticism, just a commentary on a great way to do things)

Goverment jobs: Almost the only spot to get a pension any more, and definitly the only spot to get one that is cost-of-living adjusted upwards every year.

Now if I could only get him to trade in the his-and-hers blazers and get a couple of Isuzus.
