Back in '71, I spent 2 weeks at Parris Island trying to become one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children - then got a quick bus ride home when they found out I was only 15. Girls, surfboards & motorcycles got in the way and kept me from returning. Back then it was just an adventure. Once I got older, missed some friends who didn't come back from SE Asia (and finally got my father to talk about Normandy), I could appreciate the sacrifice and committment made by those who actually serve(d). It's a different world today, but the need for good soldiers is still there. Hat's off to you all! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

6 years active in the Navy. Iraq from 02/03 until 09/03
Spend more time gone than home...
I think my family gets the thanxs here..been married since 02/02.. and only been home a total time of 4 months...

Just because you were issued a family doesn't mean they're on your list of deployable items. Turn them back in and request a "Family Kit, Deployable." (I tried that and asked for a younger model--don't do that. The current wife will get upset. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />)

Actually, I think I am on their list of problems... you know, when I am gone, I am not spending money on various projects and race cars... you know the list...

In 10/66 Out 10/68 MOS 11H20 (106Recoilless Rifle and Demo)
Trained in Ft Lewis, WA and Ft Polk, LA (Jungle School)
RVN May 67 to May 68 I Corps
196th Light Infantry Brigade, 4th Battalion/31st Infanty
Did year in combat mostly as a 106 gunner some counter sniper and tunnel work. Relocated to Ft Hood,TX for 5 months(6/68 to 11/68)served in a Riot Control Platoon of the 2nd Armored Division. Served in difficult times and was honorably discharged as an E4.
