This is good info, let me add some. The 7.5" LSD is I believe only available in Gen 2, which is 82-86 Supras. Look at www.car-parts.com under Carrier. The F293 axle code (on the VIN plate) means 4.10 gears.

<strong>There certainly is a 7.5" Supra LSD that will fit in the front diff, and they can usually be had for $50 or less at the local P&P.

These were the optional LSD's used in the Gen. I and Gen II Supras. You have to remove a little (1/4" or so?) of excess material on the ends of the front truck stub axles to get them to work with the Supra diffs, but otherwise i believe they are plug and play.

Easiest way to identify these diffs is from the axle code: you want Fxx3, where F = 7.5" and the final 3 = two pinion LSD.

Another identifier: the LSD's had a finned rear cover with a sticker that reads "LSD oil only".

So if I can find one of these 7.5 gen II 82-86 supra LSDs. I can just pull the carrier (with the LSD in it) bolt my ring gear (4.88) to it and throw it into my axle? will it fit? or do you need to use the whole supra housing ?
excuse me if I butchered any terminology.. if this doesn't make any sense I will try to rephrase.

To my knowledge, Rob Jackson (SuperRunner) was the first to talk about this. I was really taken with the idea of installing front and rear limited slips, and asked him a lot of questions when he first described this swap. I think if you do a search for "Supra LSD" you will pull up much of that initial discussion. Rob's experience was that he needed to grind off some of the excess material on the splined ends of the stub axles, but I think that was the only change. I forget which bearings and races you end up using, but if you pull the complete third member from the donor Supra you should have enough parts to make it work.

A while ago I went to the local pick and pull and grabbed some 7.5" LSDs (they were cheap and I wanted spares). Although these were mostly used in the gen. II Supras I believe they were optional (but very rare) in the gen. I's as well. In any event, they are were not that hard to find in my area.

If you find one, the easiest way to pull it is to just drop the whole third member (hint: don't bother trying to disconnect the 3rd member from the cross brace it's bolted to, just drop the cross brace with the 3rd member still attached, it's much easier).

I haven't actually gotten around to doing this swap myself yet; I have the parts but need to get my truck running agian first. Someday I'll finish my engine and can finally move on to the drivetrain <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

I know I am dragging up an old post but.. I got some questions for you guys with the 7.5" supra LSDs.. What about the cressida? when I do search on car-parts.com it comes up with the supra rear as a match and says..locking. Is this a front axle? will it work? I have been calling yards in the massachusetts area and have not found a 7.5" supra LSD for under 150$.. Just thought that the locking cressida front might be found for cheaper.
