Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello Everyone,

Just wanted a valuable 2nd opinion, well I currently own a 95.5 4x4 5 speed,Rodeo w/ about 193K trouble free miles. Problem is i just came across, a more sportier, my type kinda zu,(don't need 4drs)
a sweet 01 rodeo sport , auto, 4x4, power everything cept seats, hard top , w 35k miles (kinda high, tho from experience know these isuzu's last almost forever)
for about $16k.

here it is, first one at the top:

http://www.carmax.com/SearchResults...bel=Chicago&Location=7123&Locati onLabel=Tinley%20Park&Price=5&PriceLabel=Any%20Price&HasCookie=True&pageType=1]Rodeo Sport

The delimma is, should i stay with the current zu not knowing how long she's got, keep paying for upcoming wear and tear repairs, and wait till she drops dead THEN get me another rodeo sport or spring the $16g's for the newer, more powerful, better looking, lower mileage car i could be driving now.

I ask this question only because i have such an adrenaline rush (seem to make judgements i regret later) everytime i mention a new car to myself that i don't want to make a hasty decision.

Thnx for anyones input,
much appreciated,

Wil

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, just looking for someone to convince you that spending that muhc $$$ is bad. Go for it. I like it all except for the automatic. Have fun with your new ride!

1. automatics are great, esp for rockcrawling. Im running a tranny cooler, and never had any problems.

2. I personally wouldn't buy from a dealer. The retail value is $16,105 and trade-in value is $12,925. (according to Kelly Blue Book) You want to buy somewhere in the middle of the two prices and for Isuzu brand it should be closer to the lower price. The 2001 comes with the 10/120 warranty so getting additional warranties from Carmax shouldn't be an incentive.

3. Wait it out, there is a lot of talk of Isuzu planning to stop US production of SUVs... I would assume the price would take a dump then.

4. I totally recommend getting the newer truck, just IMO wait it out a little longer.

5. Take my advice, if you plan to wheel it, DON'T BUY BLACK!! Everything on my rodeo was planned. The color was an impulse choice. It looks damn good all shiny at night, but after some trail pin-striping...

Sounds like you are looking for someone to talk you out of it... if you really want to talk yourself out of it, just figure out how much you would lose in depreciation and interest (even if you aren't financing, you could be using that money for other things). Also add any sales tax (you will never get it back), any increase in yearly registration fees, any increase in your car insurance (and if you don't carry collision, you are putting a lot more $$$ on the line if you total it). Even figuring on some big repair bills your current ride is probably a lot cheaper.

But... you only live once... do what makes you happy If you want to "compromise", keep your ride another year - then you can probably buy the same vehicle a few grand cheaper, or get an even nicer ride for the same dough.

Also, the used car market isn't that hot right now, you should be able to beat them down on the price QUITE a bit. If they aren't willing to deal... find another seller who is (be patient).

Good luck!!

Thnx for all the much needed advice ..

I'm hoping the dealer sells the truck soon so i don't have to think about it, out of site, out of mind.

You guys are right on, i am looking to get talked out of buying it, because i have regreted big purchases in the past. (i like buying stuff i want but don't need)

BobDole,JasonB- i love shifting my own gears except im getting really lazy and tired of driving through downtown Chicago's rush hour every day, plus i also like the off-road advantage auto's have..

4play, yea i was thinkin the same thing, about isuzu discontinuing their lineup soon and possibly getting a better deal next yr.

I'll probably just keep modding my current zu to keep me happy, for now i'm gonna need alot of patience tho!

thnx again for everyones input..

Wil

I DEFINITELY WON'T try to talk you out of it. heheh.
Go with the Amigo. If your concerned about price, either try your hand at negotiating, or utilize the VIP (if it's still around) through Planet Isuzoo. It's a nice, easy, no haggle way to buy (no discussions on the VIP please... it's been done before).

Auto is nice for crawling over stuff. I've toasted my clutch prematurely b/e of the off-roading done in my Amigo. GO OUT AND GET IT!!!!

HTH,

Dave

BTW, I believe the Amigo came before the rodeo.
