You shouldn't have to worry about it rusting too much and falling apart. My truck is 14 years old and the stock pipes are rusty, but they are still solid. If you keep the underside cleaned well (as in every time you go to the car wash, wash the underside as well) then you shouldn't have to worry about the pipes rusting through even in places where they salt the roads.
