I was doing my weeky search of the Web for Dodge Raider info when I came across this minister's story about how he believes divine inspiration helped him find a Raider:
http://www.geocities.com/~angelfriends/SR/goodtime.html
It's a great little read and made me thankful again for finding my second Raider after my first one gave up its smoky ghost.
null

Interesting story. I think it is absolutely conceivable that something like that could actually happen. If you believe what the Bible claims, and I do, nothing is out of the realm of possibility. But watch what you pray for.
Steve

Well, somewhere it says, "ask and yee shall receive, knock and the door will open." Be careful what you ask for and where you knock, though. An interesting coincidence. They show up at times. I hope his was in better condition than my 89. Anyway, perseverence will work, I kept looking for 6 months before I found my 89. I had my 95SR, so I was not at a disadvantage, though.

But my monty did find this board for me, and the sport of fourwheeling. Whos know maybe my truck is part of the master plan, cool to think of it that way. If you are interested in talking with some of us, or maybe participating in future runs just say so. I myself am from central jersey. This sunday we completed a pretty big run in the pine barrens with 28 vehicles, and four mitsu vehicles. I hope our numbers grow. Look for a writeup I am doing for the run.
Thanks again for the link,
DougH www.monterooffroad.com
doug@outdoors.com
[ 18 February 2002: Message edited by: DougH ]

Doug, when are you going on another run in the bine barrens? I still don't have my truck back from the head gasket thing, but when I do I want to make a trip down.
I'm planning a possible trip out to Phil's neck of the woods this spring and I'm going to want to stretch the Raider's legs a little and iron out any quirks before I commit it to a 6000 mile round trip.

Dear Doug,
I had noticed your message about the Pine Barrens run on the vmag board and here and it definitely piqued my interest -- please let me know when you're having another.
Just within a four block radius here in Brooklyn, there are four other Raiders. They're great city trucks because:
Easy to park in tight spots
Can carry 4x8 sheets of plywood/sheetrock on top
Can fit seven people in when you have to
and
not prone to break-ins because nothing's hidden. Also, they're so rare chop shops don't seem to want them, while my neighbors new Hondas disappear with depressing regularity.
Best,
GT
PS: I'd like to know where that minister has his church -- he sounds like a truly enlightened clergyman.

Great story, I now feel ashamed that I looked
for a Raider because they were priced a few
thousand less than the same car with a Montero
badge!! I bought my 89 in 94 for $8500 and
was/is in great shape. I do however, get a
spiritual high when I work on her!!
Peace

Right you are, Mr Guy, on the garages! I once shot down a very steep ramp on 32nd Street near Madison Square Garden into a parking garage, only to brake just in time to avoid a water pipe would have made me a convertible.
As this was a five speed, I had to slowly let in the clutch and engage in reverse up --am I glad I didn't pop it then, or there would have been some major damage.
Keven, you're also right about the Raider vs. Mistu. Back in '87 when I was shopping for my first one, the Mitsu dealers were asking 14k and not haggling at all. But over at the Dodge dealer, I got a $500 rebate and (with Dad's help) was able to knock them down to 12K.
I put 188K on it, but it started smoking like crazy, so I sold it to a guy who shipped it off to Guatemala to be repowered more cheaply there. Instead of sinking 2-3K into a new engine, I figure I'd look for an 89 V6, as the four was kind of underpowered. I watched all the online listings, and found a dealer in nearby NJ who had one for 3.5K with 73K on it WAY back in his lot. He didn't have a service record, so I was able to get him down to 2.5k. I basically replaced the brakes and all hoses, fluids, tires and tuned it, and it's been fine since.
The day I went to pick it up, the salesman told me the dealership's owner had spotted the Raider after me and wanted to buy it for his sister to use, but he said he had shook hands with me on it, and a deal was a deal. I guess I got lucky there!
It's just been my experience that these vehicles just bring out the best in folks
