So is there an alarm in your Monty? Or even one of those false blinking alarm LED's??

I've got a substancial amount invested in mine and it's never been broken into. Of course, I don't keep it showroom shiny all the time either.

Ray that is an interesting point. In my Monty, I have a GPS that is hard wired into the dash. Under the dash near the hood release, I have a fused connection that shows a red diode all the time. And I also have a mutli-port Cig lighter type outlet which has another red diode shining all the time.

In the dark, it would be impossible to tell if this is an alarm or not.

It's kind of like having those fake cameras mounted where they can be seen. Is it real or is it memorex?

that happened twice to me this last year. the first time they broke in and tried to get the stereo but gave up because I put it in so that it takes me an hour to get out, but they did take my subs. Then exactly a month later they came back and stole my neighbors stereo and broke into my other one to take my radar detector and once again tried for the other stereo but failed, although I had to do some repair to get it to work again. now I have a nice alarm on both and I haven't had any problems. although I am suspicious that the people behind it all moved in next door shortly after the last one.

There is nothing like the sound of the slide working on a Model 12 pre-64 Winchester 12ga. to stop that top cutting knife in mid stroke. Used to live on 34th St. So. off George Ward Golf Course in the B'ham. Southside, Yellowhammer, so I know what you mean. Caught some "economic reformers" trying to get into my Datsun SRL-311 Fairlady. Really enjoyed watching them drive away with 3 flat tires (would have been 4 but I never got a shot at the driver's front except for the undercar richochet try that missed - didn't have my glasses on). Funny, never had a speck of trouble after that....

Hmmm.... Sounds like Camera Strobe triggered to a motion or capacitive touch sensor around the Stereo might be a cheap solution to run em off... A few successive "pops" of a white Strobe in their faces [only when the Ignition is off] might fake em/disorient them into giving up on the job, especially if a fake window decal said "Protected By Wireless Webcam".

Just a "premptive" Techno thought, since it's rare to be around w/Firearms in hand to deliver Western Justice to the jerks.

As seen on TV several weeks ago, the new idea seems to be acid-etching the VIN on all the vehicle windows. This dissuades theft up front and vehicle sales to chop shops, since shops don't want to screw with replacing all the glass to hide the stolen vehicle VIN. On an SUV with such etched windows, a fake "Wireless Webcam" sticker might be taken more seriously, since alarms are all kinda "mind games" anyway.

Of course, an insulated Stereo front panel fascia and some serious interlocks [so as to not hurt the Owner] that hit a Thief with ~50,000 volts or so momentarily would be another "stealth" Techno solution. Couple your alarm trigger to your wireless unit or Pager and go outside in time to watch the jerk froth at the mouth on the ground by your Monty...

A nice, close-up shot of Mace, etc., "auto-delivered" by Solenoid from a small hole around the Stereo is another thought... A 30 second delay after break-in to trigger the Mace spray should be about right... Just interlock it well to avoid mishaps.

I like your way of thinking. I always thought placing the alarm horn inside the cab would be better than it being outside. 200db's blasting the eardrums while trying to pry out a stereo has got to be somewhat annoying.

Good suggestions Engineering guy but the only problem is you could be held liable it it accidentally goes off when say you forget to mention it to your buddy whom you loan your car to, or the valet you allow to park it at the long term Airport Parking company or your new g-friend.

Seriously, I've had numerous cars since 1985 and they've never been broken into so long as there's a blinking light up front so it looks like there's an alarm. This includes my old Supra which was broken into 2x in front of my parents house to steal the factory stereo (had a 9 band EQ). After the light, no further break-ins including when parked at a civilian shipyard in Newport News VA (not exactly the safest place to park a car). Eventually I upgraded to a full alarm.

Oh, just make sure the light turns off when driving. This way if you have any unscrupulous "friends" they can't tell it's a fake either.

that really sucks. i haven't had anyone bust into my monstero yet, but i had the same thing happen to my ford ranger. i rarely lock the doors on my vehicle now. would rather pay for a new stereo on ebay than replace my windows.
on another note. i noticed in your pics that that you had the exact same seat tear on the driver's seat in you gen I as i do. just curious if most gen I's have this same seat problem....
