I have the hitch ball and some interesting wiring on the rear bumper also, 22R 5 speed. 225/75R/15 tires, 15x6JJ wheels. Other undecipherable codes in the door jamb, 35590 and R3 What does this stuff mean?

Is your 22R carburated by chance? The G52 tranny, which you apparently have, is usually associated with the carb 22R. The EFI 22RE, usually gets the W56 tranny. Where the G series tranny differs from the pre'89 W56 as I understand it, is that the tranny and T-case shifters are both in the transmission. Just like the later model post '89 W56 tranny. I have no idea why Toyota did this, but your T-case is most likely the gear driven type, just like on the W56 5speeds.

Your gear ratio appears to be 4.10, which is pretty standard for most Toyotas with 5 speeds and 225/75R-15 tires. Toyota put the vin plate on the fire wall on all trucks prior to '89.
