Our '90 4dr 3.0L with 121,000 miles still averages about 18-19 mpg in mixed driving. Don't know how one could expect much more for a fairly high reving jap V6 in a square SUV with the aerodymamics of a phone booth. Last summer we did a 7,000 mile cross country trip with a pretty full load and 2 kayaks on top. Cruised the freeways about 70-75 except when steep grades with headwinds slowed us down. Averaged 17.0 mpg for the trip: high tank was 20.1 mpg (boats off, highway driving in Michigan flatlands), low tank was 12.4 mpg (trying to make time on I-80 through Wyoming, boats on, 50-60 mph headwinds).
