I get about 320 miles to my 20 gallon tank in the hot, humid, flat, borring, city of Houston Texas. This is 16 miles to the gallon. BUT, ERIC D HELP ME OUT. MY SPEEDO IS NOT CHANGED TO MATCH MY 32" TIRES. With this I am clocking less miles on my truck odometer reading. Eric once mentioned that you can add 10-12% to your total mileage reading due to the tires added height. With this factor added to my total mileage I am now getting 17.6 miles to the gallon 70%highway/30%city combined. (I am using 10% for my application, because of the 32" tires) This makes me feel better. I will bet that no more than 10% of this group has updated the speedo to reflect. Some stuff that could hurt or help-
Synthetic- engine, diffs, xfers, help, I only believe you will see a difference when fully changed over, SLIGHTLY.
Manual hubs- you have read the posts about the makes and model and the benefits. If not do a search. My truck now has still front drive shafts when in 2wd. This is less drag and I think it helped gain about 15 miles per tank on my truck plus less wear and tear.
Proper tuning- of engine, and truck overall. Good air cleaner, plugs ECT.
Weight- Don't let your truck pile up with 100 pounds of crappy dry mud under you truck. The hatch loaded with bulk that is not needed. Huge over powered heavy bumpers, and roof racks Do not help the counter, but (I love everyone of them)
Drag- A spare on your roof when you could mount it on your hatch. (Less drag) Windows down on the highway. Tires under inflated. Truck not greased, Suspension lifts, big tires, body lifts, Bulky armor and bumpers. (I love them too but does not help mileage)
Driving style- Drive slower at lower RPMS will help. This is just to boring for me. On occasion I like to use a bit of gas. Use cruise control on highway with a low RPM range BONUS! less tickets!
I know some of the stuff I mentioned is petty things that do minor changes. I do belive that the little things add up in this beat down topic. It was said before that this truck has the aerodynamics of a Monster fridge But I still want her to get the mileage of a Honda.
Some of the upgrades we want and need offroading steel bumpers, winches, lifts, armor and big tires do not help us in the mileage depot. But as offroaders we all want them and need them.
Still we are after little things to counter against this robbery. I would love any advice to get my counter up too.
Also who was it that was testing the tornado? I would love to see if this helps at all. Most here shoot this gadget down. But hey I still would like to here the results.
