Let them know that just because the liberal media in this country only gives air time to the anti war sentiment, most of us are 185% behind them. GOD BLESS THEM, GOD SPEED.
This was a fitting thing I found on another board:
quote:
Mrs. Chapman made one hell of a speech, didn't she? Last week, the Shelby County (Alabama) Legislative Delegation hosted a "Stand Up for America Rally." More than 1,200 people attended including featured speakers Chief Justice Roy Moore, Adjutant General Mark Bowen and Alabama State Auditor Beth Chapman.
Attached is a copy of Mrs. Chapman's speech, which resulted in five standing ovations, tremendous applause and an encore. It's a short read and well worth it.
I hope you enjoy it as we continue to "Stand up for America!"
Stand Up for America Rally Speech By: Beth Chapman I'm here tonight because men and women of the United States military have given their lives for my freedom. I am not here tonight because Sheryl Crowe, Rosie O'Donnell, Martin Sheen, George Clooney, Jane Fonda or Phil Donahue, sacrificed their lives for me.
If my memory serves me correctly, it was not movie stars or musicians, but the United States Military who fought on the shores of Iwo Jima, the jungles of Vietnam, and the beaches of Normandy. Tonight, I say we should support the President of the United States and the U.S. Military and tell the liberal, tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, hippy, tie-dyed liberals to go make their movies and music and whine somewhere else.
After all, if they lived in Iraq, they wouldn't be allowed the freedom of speech they're being given here today. Ironically, they would be put to death at the hands of Sadam Husssein or Osama Bin Laden. I want to know how the very people who are against war because of the loss of life, can possibly be the same people who are for abortion? They are the same people who are for animal rights but against the rights of the unborn.
The movie stars say they want to go to Iraq and serve as "human shields" for the Iraqis. I say let them buy a one-way ticket and go. No one likes war. I hate war! But the one thing I hate more is the fact that this country has been forced into war-innocent people have lost their lives - - and there but for the grace of God, it could have been my brother, my husband, or even worse my own son.
On December 7, 1941, there are no records of movie stars treading the blazing waters of Pearl Harbor.
On September 11, 2001; there are no photos of movie stars standing as "human shields" against the debris and falling bodies ascending from the World Trade Center. There were only policemen and firemen -- underpaid civil servants who gave their all with nothing expected in return. When the USS Cole was bombed, there were no movie stars guarding the ship -- where were the human shields then? If America's movie stars want to be human shields, let them shield the gang-ridden streets of Los Angeles, or New York City, let them shield the lives of the children of North Birmingham whose mothers lay them down to sleep on the floor each night to shelter them from stray bullets.
If they want to be human shields, I say let them shield the men and women of honesty and integrity that epitomizes courage and embody the spirit of freedom by wearing the proud uniforms of the United States Military. Those are the people who have earned and deserve shielding!
Throughout the course of history, this country has remained free, not because of movie stars and liberal activists, but because of brave men and women who hated war too. However, they lay down their lives so that we all may live in freedom. After all - "What greater love hath no man, that he lay down his life for his friend," or in this case a country.
We should give our military honor and acknowledgement and not let their lives be in vain. If you want to see true human shields, walk through Arlington Cemetery. There lie human shields, heroes, and the BRAVE Americans who didn't get on television and talk about being a human shield -- they were human shields.
I thank God tonight for freedom -- those who bought and paid for it with their lives in the past -- those who will protect it in the present and defend it in the future.
America has remained silent too long! God-fearing people have remained silent too long!
We must lift our voices united in a humble prayer to God for guidance and the strength and courage to sustain us throughout whatever the future may hold.
After the tragic events of Sept. 11th, my then eleven -year-old son said terrorism is a war against them and us and if you're not one of us, then you're one of them.
So in closing tonight, let us be of one accord, let us stand proud, and let us be the human shields of prayer, encouragement and support for the President, our troops and their families and our country.
May God bless America, the land of the free, the home of the brave and the greatest country.

Hey Michael Dean...I'm NOT going to say what I WANTED to say about you...but I will say this: You're opinion is meaningless, and worthless...I COULD respect it however, if you MOVED to France...but alas, you STILL live here, and just gripe and complain...you move to France, become a citizen...THEN when you spew like you did, SOMEONE MIGHT give a hoot!! I have a real problem with one statement in the French Wars paper.
WW1 France is saved by the United States..WTF! I really must protest this blanket statement. The US joined the war in April of 1917 AFTER Hundreds of thousands of British and Australian Troops had shed their lives fighting for French freedom (over 2 million died or were MIA out of about 8 million mobilised from the British Empire during WW1). I would accept the statement that "America joined with the Brtish Allied nations in liberating France". I am not downplaying the US part in WW1 but I think it needs to be seen in perspective.
Its now 12:00 our time and the war hasn't started yet. I've got the telly on so I know what is happening.
I wholeheartedly give my support to the soldiers over there, after all they are doing their job. And I am hoping that they come back to us alive and well. [ March 19, 2003, 09:03 PM: Message edited by: Craig ]

Craig, I admire your own patriotism for your homeland. You are absolutely correct. And just know that most educated Americans are aware that Australia has always been a "stand up" Country in world events since its creation.
My father spent time with OZ troops in the South Pacific during WW2, and he had fine things to say about his experiences down under.

My son is in the Army currently on the front line in Kuwait. He is defending our country and the rights of all of us to have a difference of opinion. He is also about to free the people of Iraq. I am proud of him and pray he will come home safely.

So your implying that to be a real American or to hold the legitimacy to wish/invoke/inflict physical harm on another fellow American I need to come from a military family? Isn't that a prerequisite of most military and totalitarian governments? Maybe your on the wrong side of the pond my freind! Needless to say I believe I meet your requirements anyway. Unfortunately I havent been endowed with the immense sense of power and omnipotence your experience has lent you.
Number one problem here is your total inability to counter point or to make any point other than your fervent, blind loyalty to a government that 3 years ago you were probably cursing. Different leadership sure - but the same old inbred habits and agendas and party vendettas typical to be found in any our fine career politicians - rep or dem.
You're gonna hafta expound when you say I've never been taught the "true" meaning of the Constitution. As I see it, its been the likes of you that have thrown the whole thing to wind since 9/11. You that thrive in public spaces that now involve personal searches, constant surveillance, and interrogation understand what I'm talking about. All in the name of your "saftey" and "security" for now, but what about in 15 years? I have a hard time seeing this progressing into something good or even benign for that matter. Powers given to select leadership such as those in the Homeland Security Act always produce corruption and abuse. Have you yourself read the Homeland Security Act? Creepy stuff my freind.

Let's please not give each other too much bull...
after all our soldiers have always fought for everyone's freedom to speak his or her mind as much as anyone else, and if you regard anyones' opinion as meaningless then all of our soldiers have fought in vain, and many have died for nothing.
We all like the concept of freedom right?
[edit] hahah looks like while I was typing this, maybe a couple of other guys were thinking the same thing [ March 19, 2003, 09:21 PM: Message edited by: Eric D ]

Your ignorance of history, as well as current events is typical of so many in this Country today. I could point-counter-point with you and the other one all day, but it would be a waste of time. I've dealt with liberals/socialists for many years and have learned that facts have little to do with their true motives. You guys are simply not worth the effort.
This war isn't something to occupy the time between BJs, or to divert attention from bad polls. We have been forced to take this action by international Law. If you can't see that fact, then you are not worth another word.
