Well, it's official. Granny told me she wants a Gen II for her daily driver. Anybody got one they're willing to part with? I'd like to get her into a 94 or 95. Does $5-6,000Sound about right? Oh, yea, preferably in the Pacific Northwest, too.

There were a few very good deals on www.craigslist.org . I saw a 92 SR and a 95 Sr for those prices around the SF bay area. Good luck!

Go 95sr, they have all the goodies for sure, and sold the most of any Gen II. 5-6K is enough if you want 100s of thousands of miles. If, like me you would be hunting for the cleanest, lowest mile unit on the net they were going 9,500-12K last year. I have not checked this year(I went 99 this year), but I would guess more like 7-10K for cleaner, lower milage units.

1996 SR From the Area 51 Skunk Works. 37"BFG Tires, 5" lift, Rock Track 4:1 Case, Tom Woods Drive Shafts, Oasis Air, Front ARB, lifted gas tank, T-max winch and lots of stuff that cost too much.

A lil different environs in WA than Hemet, CA, eh?
Ex-Riverside, CA guy here...

My "outta the box" contribution to your research is this... Lotsa films are now made in Canada, due to the Exchange Rate and costs being ~35% less "up" there. Can this work to your advantage as well? Look for some used Montys during either a Road Trip North or by doing some Web surfing on Canuck-linked sites.

Good Luck.

Hey EG, I wish it were so, but no-go. We didn't get ANY monties except the Raider, till 2003. EVER! So the only GenIIs up here were imported from US or elsewhere.

Hey Grandpa, when are you and Granny coming up this way for a visit?

I'll keep my eyes open down here, there is a much larger market here.
As far as models, the '95'sr has all the bells and whistles, but decide what you want. Do you need a locker for the rear on a street driven rig. The DOHC motor in the '94/95' Monty's is a spendy unit for service/maintainence, but has the most power of the models.

Hi, I will keep an ear to the ground for you. Word of advice. here in washington they like to get their license money out of you as well as the taxes so, bringing a truck down from canada might end up costing as much & being a pain in the administrative ass. there is a glut in the market for gen two monteros here though. I wouldn't be too suprised to hear you find what you want in the five to six range.
try checking the auto/truck trader, then lowball the guy hard. everybody in that rag thinks their stuff is made of gold.
good luck

Bill, check the autotrader on line, it's been a while but the last time I was on there I did see a few Gen II's. How did you make out with that coolant leak? Kevin

Thanks for insights re: the Canadian Market. Weird, but not an isolated case...

We met an Irish guy on the Ferry from Mallaig [Scottish Mainland] to the Isle of Skye standing outside his 2 door, Mid-90s Montero. That was a eye-opener for me, since my beloved '90 was the last year for that body style here in the States. He told me about a huge Grey Market of Importers and Parts/Service Shops around Ireland, due to the same types of import restrictions in Ireland you mention as being the case there Up North. The Irish had all of Mainland Europe to poach models from, within the usual preference/restriction of right hand drive & Diesel fuel.
