Sorry if this was covered. I did a search but didn't find the answer I need.
I am ordering shocks tomorrow, or very soon at least. The longer KYB's that work in the v6 Part #s KG6402 and KG5483. Will they work with out a lift? I am without a doubt lifting the truck to the full torsion bar tweak and plan to go with Gen II coils and a spacer(hopefully) to get the rear end level. For a while I may have to run around close to stock ride height. I don't want to by 2 sets of shocks though. So is it go to go ordering the longer shocks and run a stock ride height?
TIA

What does my breath stink? This is my second thread with no interest. I guess I need to post a herculiner thread so we can all laugh at the hootus. Then I might get a reply or 2.

Hambone,
Don't get your hootus caught in the spacer...

In all seriousness, I don't know the answer to your question. If I were to guess, I would think you would be alright onroad. If you take it offroad and over-extend the rear, you might pop a spring out of the seat?
This is not from past experience or knowledge... just trying to picture it in my head.

Pmontero,
Thanks for the warning and the reply. It is comforting to know someone cares
For real thank you. My concern with running the longer shocks at stock height is weather or not I run a risk of compressing them to far. Possibly damaging the shaft? Is this also a concern when getting a greater then normal angle during articulation of the rear axle, even when lifted?
Any way thanks I thinks I'm just going to order them and go a head and lift it right away. Even if it means a few more weeks before I can register it and run it on the road.

Yes your breath does stink <GRIN>
Seriously, I just now saw this post. Regarding the shock lengths. I'd suggest using the stock sizes unless you lift it immediately. My previous shock experience with the KYB's is that they will bottom out and blow the top out of them if you use the longer shocks up front without the torsion bar lift.
Not sure about the back shocks though since I'm lifted in back.

See there I knew it. If you mention the hootus your sure to get replies. I bet everyone does a hootus search as soon as they open this site Makes you wonder about the off road crowd.
Ray thank you, that's the stuff I was looking for. I guess it's time to get my hands on some Gen II coils and lift this pig.
Thanks a again folks.

There just isn't a huge diff between the GenI and GenII, in terms of ride height. A bit, but not that much. If you're in doubt though, why not just leave the ones that are there right now, until you lift the back? You do still have the old ones, eh?
BTW, patience is a virtue. Herc on your Hootus, however, is not virtuous.

Never mock a Herc'd hootus!
Hambone, I had put some longer Monroe's on the back of the Raider before I lifted it. My stock coils and shocks were pretty worn and out of shape at the time - gave no support really (constantly banging over curbs, etc). I had no problem with over-compressing them. The rear shocks worked okay before and after the lift. Now the fronts...
I just put Emu's all around a couple months ago. Went over a jumper in the Kisatchie last month - coming down felt like landing on a bed of pillows. [ June 11, 2003, 12:04 AM: Message edited by: DougB ]
