Hi guys!

looking for some help on cranking the torsion bars and tire/wheels combination.

torsion bars: what is the maximum height i can crank out of it? is it adviseable to max it out? how do you know if you reach the end, do you measure the bolt?

tires/wheels: i now have a 31x10.50's on 15x8, like to go wider is 31x12.50 advisable? or 32x11.50 better.

i love this truck it's strong get more bang for your buck!

thanks in advance for your advise!

I've heard you do not want to crank the tortion bars to much, and if you go more than and inch or so (figure they've settled about that much over the years) you will want to have an alignment done.

I've heard we can fit 32 x 11.5's on stock rims (I know SR rolling stock is 1" wider than LS), but you indicate you have 15 x 8's, so maybe, if you have a wider offset, you can fit 32 x 12.5's or maybe 33's, but then you may run into clearance issues.

There's a guy on here with a dedicated web site on all the mods he's done to his Gen II, including the correct way to crank tortion bars. Get on there and check it out.

Maybe its the lawyer in me talking, but you never want to "max" out anything that has the word "tortion" in it, especially if you're like me and don't quite understand how tortion bars work.

Surf around the site and enjoy. I waste plety of billable hours dreaming of how I can spend my hard earned money to improve my dream truck. Have fun and be safe, they're incredible trucks, but they have limits.

Go with the 33" tires if you want to 4wheel... These trucks have very little clearance stock and will bottom out. Tires are the best way to avoid this. The best way to fit the 33" tires with out rubbing... is a 2" body lift. Cost $115 if you do the install (takes a day). This gives the truck a nice look too!!!

Here is a pic of my truck with the body lift and 33" Super Swampers (also 3" Suspension lift). It looks much cooler:

oh man, i like the montypower!!!

mine is same color w/grill guard too.

where did you buy your body lift? are they easy to install?

may i ask how much did you spend on lifts alone?

i like how it sits, it high!
your picture with the bfg at's, is that before it's lifted? or just looks low because of the tires?

thanks for your reply, montypower!

94monty-

You should post up a picture of your truck... I really like the metalic blue too!!

Some starter info:

Body lift is made by Roger Brown:
http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4/ForSale/BodyLiftKit.shtml#FAQ

It is fairly easy to install... but takes time to do it correctly. I spent about 2 days working on it with some help. It is not overly difficult just some things need to be customized. I had a shop weld the front bumper mounts 2" higher... and just customized the rear bumper to get it up 2" - Cost involved (besides your labor) $115 for kit - I paid $150 for the welding... Including the rock slider relocation, hard body mounts, and front bumper.

Some general costs involved with the suspension lift:

Rear Custom 3" lift springs: $230
Install of rear springs: $100
Front Manual Hubs: $80
Crank T Bars- Free
Cut bump stops- free
Wheel Alignment- $60 (major adjustment needed!!)
Rear Sway bar removed- Free
Probably some other stuff... I'm sure... But figure around $500 or so.

It sits about 5" higher than stock... and with the 31" tires even higher... The BFG AT are used for on road... As it goes a bunch of use!!! The picture with the 31" BFG is before the body lift (I think). With the 33" Swampers it sits much higher!! All the lift was required to fit the Swampers on 10" wide rims... which gives it a nice stance.

Hope that gets you on your way! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Thanks for the welcome note everybody!

Montypower, thanks for your reply, i really appreciated it. i really like how your truck stands. i will do my best to copy her. did you change your front hub to a manual? why? is manual hub better than what came with the truck?

Onsail, i'm in miramesa, where are you? reading your post, your truck sounds great!

we just got back from a camping trip up in morro bay. i took her to pismo beach. they have a sand dunes there by the beach, it was fun to take her off roading for the first time! i was so excited that i got stuck on the beach! i forgot to lower my psi! hahahaha! once i did that, it was no problem. i lowered mine to 20psi, do you guys do lower than that on the sand?

i'm really impressed how strong this truck is!

here's what i did b4 the camping trip

cranked torsion bars 2"
cut bumpstop 1/2"
new 31x10.50x15.
alignment.

off-roader, i will try to locate CAP510, thanks!
