I think I should add, I learned long ago how to stop quick without antilock brakes and drove many cars without them so they aren't as big a deal to me. I have actually gottne in a few hairy situations and had no problems stopping quick.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I just repair this on my rig.
It was the Gforce sensor under the dash.
The part cost around $212.00 from Mitsubishi.

I would highly recommend getting it tested because of the cost

Roll Me Over
I'm thinking I will disconnect mine as well. Sometimes the lights on, sometimes not. Sometimes the ABS works, sometimes not. Light seems to stay off, abs work, when its wet.

I went through my service manual and it just looks like too much of a pain to try to fix.

To bad you cant just rip it out. That box in the engine bay eats up some nice real estate.

PS. wouldnt having oversized tires mess with how the system is designed to work anyways?

I looked in the Chilton's manual and in chapter 9-49 it has a description and pictures of it. If I knew how to post a picture here I would for you. It shows it located right behind the hand brake lever on 92-95 Montero's. It is a little black box with an arrow pointing towards the front of the vehicle,

Hope this helps.

Unless one tire was a significantly different size than the rest. The ABS measures how fast each wheel is rotating and engages when one wheel is being slowed (or stopped) faster than the rest while braking.

Thought I would post an update so people who are doing a search for this problem can get some answers. Finally, broke down and took it to the dealer and had them work on it. The dealer just called and told me that my computer was spitting out multiple error msgs and one of them is a bad wheel sensor on the front left wheel. He said that they would replace the sensor at a cost of $450 (Parts and labor) but could not guarentee that it would solve the problem. But, he said it feinitely went bad. So we will see what happend. He also said that "my computer" might be going bad also but he wouldnt elaborate on that. ARGH Now I know why everyone calls them the stealer.

Yes the Dealer is the stealer.
When I went to them to get a second opinion on engine rebuild they offered me $500 for my rig if I didn't want to fix the engine. The third row leather seats are worth $3500 alone. I don't go to the dealer anymore.

Here's a wholesale Mitsubishi number for parts you know you have to buy. 1-800-229-1001
