Superrunner, your website is down. Am very interested in the research here for a future swap. Just put in a regular ole reman 22re since the old one died at a bad time, but maybe in a few years when I have the truck frame restored, I may go ahead and do this if it's the best bolt in swap.
Questions... Is there a way to do this without welding bell housings? (I'm not following that part) What extra is involved in putting the turbo 7mgte on a non turbo w56 22re truck vs. putting the 7mge non-turbo in? Will need the engine, bellhousing, clutch ass. slave cylinder, 5mge (why not 7mge?) mounts and what else? Finally, If I show up at your door with the above, how much $'s would you want for the install and a reasonable warrantee? FYI, if this ever happens it would be a WHILE...

I have two bellhousings welded together so I could use the R151F. Unfortunatly toyota put a reverse style clutch into the R154. Same tranny as the R151F, but the R154 had a longer input shaft, so the bellhousing was longer. And you can't swap out the input shaft because the gear welded onto the input shafts are different.
Ah. Gotcha. I've *heard* that you can put the 154 shaft into the R151, but you lose that kick as first gear. Is this correct?
But, if you don't plan on pushing over 300hp, you can run a W series tranny. I would not use the G series, the internals are weaker. To make the W or G series work, all you need is the bellhousing from any 83-92 N/A 5 speed supra, then of course you will need the clutch assembly and slave cylinder.
Thats what I wanted to know. I'd run a W56, and will be looking to keep the power down to a reasonable level (gotta love a motor where you have to worry about that, not the other way around)... [ February 17, 2003, 08:18 PM: Message edited by: TNToy ]

Yeah yotapower has been down for a while, I've been trying to get on it for a few days . So there is a way to do the 7mgte with no welding, huh? I'd do one in a minute if I thought the engine could be as realiable as a 3.4/2.7.3.0/22re is.

(I'm not following that part)He just answered that question for me. Yes. Use the bellhousing from the non-turbocharged supra 5M-GTE/7M-GTE and bolt the 22RE's W56 tranny to it. What extra is involved in putting the turbo 7mgte on a non turbo w56 22re truck vs. putting the 7mge non-turbo in?A turbo and an intercooler, probably. Will need the engine, bellhousing, clutch ass. slave cylinder, 5mge (why not 7mge?) mounts and what else? You'll need the turbo motor and a NON turbo bellhousing. The non-turbo motors use a W tranny which allows you to bolt the truck's W56 to it. The turbo cars use an R-series tranny, so you need to get a bit custom for them. You don't use the 7M-GE/TE mounts because they are in a different location. The 5MGE mount lines up with the 22RE frame mount, and the holes in the block of the 7M motor. No fabbing needed. However, given that mine will be in front of a dual ultimate crawler in a trail-only rig, it'll get some beefier motor mounts that the rubber stockers. can't have the engine coming out when the truck is upside down. This page has specs for all of the various supra years/motors: http://www.toyota-supra-celica-specs.com/Supra-Specs.html [ February 17, 2003, 08:28 PM: Message edited by: TNToy ]

He's done one (or is about to do one?)while keeping the IFS operational. He mentioned it on the Pirate BB. However, you'll need to fabricate a custom pickup and oil pan to clear the IFS diff. [ February 17, 2003, 09:21 PM: Message edited by: TNToy ]

all this talk about which transmission will fit has me wondering if an R154 (tranny from a 7mgte turbo supra) would work.
so it would work if the output shaft of an R150F (tranny from a 3.0 3VZ v6) were swapped with the output shaft of the R154?
(i know that the R154 first gear ratio is only 3.25 compared to a first gear ratio of 4.31 of an R151F, but i would rather dissassemble a transmission than try and fab a bellhousing.)

Stupid registar is messing my my domain reslutions. I am going to kick some bootay!!! www.supracharged.com works. Anyway, thanks for those of you are answering some of the questions. I am soo busy sometimes, it is hard for me to get to everything. About the R154/R151F combo swap. Talk to ozrunner on pirate. He has done this. I did to an IFS truck, but we did an SAS right after. The 7M really got him motivated to do more to the truck. You can put the diff back in, but oil pan and pickup mods will be neccessary. This is very possible to do, just nobody has taken the time to do it yet. I don't have any plans for a 4x4 IFS swap, but I am sure I will some day. A friend of mine will be starting an 83 7MGTE swap this week. He hopes to get it driveable by Saturday. Motors still have not come yet, so it depends on that. He will be using an R154(turbo supra 5 speed). For now, the 83 will be RWD only. When he gets more money, he will buy the OTT divorced t-case adapter, and get his 4x4 with using the R154. This is just another alternative.
It is better to make torque at high rpm than at low rpm, because you can take advtage of gearing. ---------------------------------------------------------------- www.supracharged.com1994 4runner - SAS, 38 TSL's, Turbo 7MGTE swap, Turbo Tranny Dual T-case, D44/D60 ront/rear
