Need a Spot
I am thinking about a 7M-GE swap, (unless i find a 7M-GTE cheap) if i found one with a 5spd i think i would have everything i need. I would think that the non-turbo would be a little more reliable and the chances are better of finding a good one.
Does it matter if the 4cyl truck is fuel injected or carb?
Thanks, Matt

found a whole 1986 supra (rusted out)with the 7m n/a motor with auto tran for $300 cdn , then the flywheel ,bellhousing , motor mounts ( from 5m motor -wreckers) plus did head gasket and all the seals and stuff from my local toyota parts counter will have about $1500 cdn dollars in swap and 200 hp under the hood - i think it is good dollar wise swap ,will be a good month till on the road- skinner

Superrunner, are doing installs at a shop or are you just reselling the engines. I'm sure a lot of people (incl.myself) would love to have a 7M-GE or GTE, but don't have the garage/tools/time to perform the swap. If you're doing them for other people, how much ya charging? BTW, how did you get around the problem of installing the A/C?

Same here, I'm in an apartment complex, and I have only basic mechanical skills. As I posted before, I'd be interested to know what you may charge for a swap...

No, 2 of the 7M's are mine, and the 2JZ is mine. I have 3 vehicles that need motors. The other 7M is my friends. He is putting it into an 83 pickup.

I my own swaps.

If someone wanted to bring me their vehicle, I would be willing to do a swap. I would charge $2500, not including intercooler system for a turbo motor. That would be extra.

It is better to make torque at high rpm than at low rpm, because you can take advtage of gearing.

Which engine swap would make a better tow vehicle out of a 82 toy truck?

4.3 vortec with auto 4 speed transmission or
7mge with toy 5 speed transmission

I would think the vortec but all this talk about 7mge has me thinking. If the toy transmission is the weak link, could you put a gm automatic transmission behing the 7mge.

$2500 includes 7mge engine (no turbo is fine) all labor and... bellhousing? warrantee? Please be as specific as you can on what I need to cover and what you will cover.
My head just developed yet another leak from this crappy reman they put in, they will be doing yet another warrantee fix, but if anything happens after that you may see me sooner than I expected... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

That would include everything. W and G series trannies only. But only the first few. Then I will bump the price up to $3,000 per vehicle. More of a promotional thing. No, I don't plan to do this as a business.

There is a 1 year warranty on the motor from the importer. I will do headgaskets, but that will be extra, and that voids the warranty on the motor. On the N/A, there really isn't a reason to replace it unless the motor has been overheated.

Yeah, if the $2500 includes all the other parts that go w/ the 7M-GE (PS pump, hoses, radiator, engine harness, etc.), that's not a bad price (I figure sacrificing some horses for more reliability of no turbo is a fair trade-off)
