ok....

ABS light came on so I checked the fluid level and looked at the lines...fluid is full and lines are all good.
However, the brakes had given a little squeak.
Can worn brakes cause the ABS light to come on???
or can it be something else?

Most likely it's a front wheel ABS sensor. Either dirty or connection loose. ABS systems can be a bear and turn into money pits if they break. But yea, I would check the condition of the front brake pads too.

I don't have ABS on my Sportage so I'm not up to speed on it's operation. But in a few days you will have a care package in the mail which should help. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

my ABS light was on for years. i got a new suspension and it went out. my guess is the front end was dipped too much from sagged springs, or, there is a problem and the bulb burned out.

Same here. I have two 95 Sportages that I have had since they were new. The ABS light has been lit on mine for several years. However, I have had no issues with braking and nobody has been able to find a cause. I suspect it is a bulb, sensor or just faulty electronics. Not sure, I am not a mechanically inclined.

from what I'm reading in other posts...

lifetime breaks are bad?
so, if I can get 12 month breaks(Napa auto carries 12 month pads/shoes for the kia) they will be better in the long run for my car?

Lifetime brake pads can be very hard on brake rotors. And Sportage rotors are trashy anyway. You are better off with a good OEM replacement like Wagner brake pads.

ok with the help of a little care package that I recieved today....
I'm looking over my ABS stuff(technical term)...lol
seeing that it uses a fuse in the engine compartment fuse box, I thought I'd look over the fuse.
humm...does not look good seems all but one of the bigger fuses are corroded...the one not corroded...we had replaced.

should I replace all the corroded fuses?
they arent broken or burnt, just very heavy corrotion. <img border="0" alt="[Barf]" title="" src="graemlins/barf.gif" />
Thinking corrotion is never good but dont know if this may be the problem with my abs causing the light to come on???

I'm glad the care package arrived OK. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Corrosion is never a good thing. I would remove the fuses and clean up the fuses themselves and the metal contacts on the fuse holder. Use emory paper or fine sand paper. If you don't have a test light or a DMM then take the ABS fuse to any auto parts store and they can test to see if it's OK. If it's bad, get a few of that type. Try one of the fuses. If it blows immediately that indicates a severe problem with the ABS. But I doubt that will happen.

Happy troubleshooting! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Leaky brake cylinders or calipers and cause an ABS light.
