Yep, no gasket. But before concluding the leak is from the pan I would totally clean everything first with a spray can of degreaser and then wash it down with water. Go for a few days and then check again.

almost every vehicle i have ever crawled under is greasy in that area. it just happens. just make sure it doesn't get really bad because that could mean too much is coming out somewhere. my theory is that it sorta steams out when the oil is hot, but how shoudl i know, i'm not a mechanic.

it's just one little drip so I wiped it off with a rag and got a second oppinion from the big guy.

Going to clean it all over anyhow to make sure first...just to be on the safe side! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />

humm... no gasket... I always thought of sealant as a "cant find the right gasket fix all".

never imagined it would be the original material!

no pesky drip at all...will keep an eye on it a few more days see what happens.

could it have been icky stuff from previous leaks getting hot and dripping off?...engine was pretty goobered and the valve cover gasket was leaking badly
