Before I did mine, I tried (unsucessfully) to find pics to help me identify the problem and fix it. Well, I took it upon myself to snap some photos when I did mine. They're not super-high resolution, but they get the job done. I hope they work (first time posting pics).

Old broken bracket:

New bracket:

and finally the clutch master cylinder backing plate:

Hope this is informative and helpful.

Edit: Re-hosted photos with a more reliable host.

Ahhhh now I know what I'm looking for. I'm thinking I might take mine out and put an arch to it on both sides......but then again why go through the trouble if it ain't broke.....know what I'm sayin?

Thanks for the pics. Very helpful.....too me at least.

BTW you got a litle rotten wood on your garage there.

The house was built in the mid thirties. I suppose the termites in the garage don't help either? Thank goodness it's a detached garage. The house and garage are actually in really nice shape!

Thanks for the pics.

Make sure you check the firewall itself for cracks. That's where the real damage occurs.

I was really worried about that after reading a post or two about the firewall tearing . I'm safe!!

Thanks for the pics. I just did mine as well. It was cracked the same place as yours (only worse) and in two other places. I did the backing plate as well. The backing plate was a pain to get on.
