Got mine installed today. Wasn't bad, took about 1.5 hours and that was set up and clean up........PITA was trying to set the clutch pedal so that it had just enough prssure on it to stop that damn chirping. I can barely touch the pedal with my foot and it stops but I just can't seem to get it with an adjustment.

My OEM one looks exactly like the one here. The crack is identical. I also talked to another guy that's a lawyer about the petion idea.......he said years ago Ford had a similar situation and people raised all kinds of hell about it and got petions together but since the HSB (highway saftey board) never said it was a potential hazzard the case never saw the light of day. He seems this would be about the same.......basically for the amount of money that the repair would/does cost, and hitting Toyota up for the bill + is not enough money for a lawyer to eneven consider........I can't stand those greedy theiving bastards!!! Lawyers that is not necessarily Toyota.......even my life long friend that sadi I should look in to it knows how I feel about his profession!!!!

What is the actual problem? Is the clutch not fully engaging due to this bracket? Pics did not come across... I had a scenario where my Truck was not shifting into gear very well and when I took it in the mechanic said it was a loose bracket and it was just a minor tighting issue. Just thought I'd ask to see if this is the same deal here.

I re-hosted the pics and added a note to ErikB about adding a link to this thread in the FAQs.

Before I did mine, I tried (unsucessfully) to find pics to help me identify the problem and fix it. Well, I took it upon myself to snap some photos when I did mine. They're not super-high resolution, but they get the job done. I hope they work (first time posting pics).

Old broken bracket:

New bracket:

and finally the clutch master cylinder backing plate:

Hope this is informative and helpful.

Edit: Re-hosted photos with a more reliable host.

I had exact problem with my 95 T100. Got so bad I couldn't depress the interlock switch so it wouldn't start. Took the bracket out and had it welded. Did same thing a second time but took more time to reinforce.

Is the new bracket a new stronger design or is it just more of the same? I didn't see where they beefed it up much.

Thanks to this post I found mine cracked and replaced it before the firewall was totally trashed. The new bracket appeared to be about the same gauge steel and general construction. The big difference was the bushing at the base of the threaded stud that goes through the firewall. This appears to be much larger and likely distributes the load over a larger area of the bracket to minimize localized stresses leading to metal fatigue. Do get the backing plate and install this between the clutch master cylinder and firewall in the engine bay. Again, this reinforces the firewall if you have minor stress fractures - the dealers don't seem to know much about this piece.

Good idea, that's probably why it already is!

I have been trying to find out exactly how you go about removing the clutch pedal bracket. Your pictures are great but do you have a step-by-step on how to remove it? Or do you know if one exists in a forum some where?

My bracket snapped this morning. Bummer. $55 tow trip back to the house.

Thanks
