If you're using the little factory bottle jack (and you're not doing suspension or steering work), place it under the lower control arm; you'll see a nipple, about the size of a quarter... Fits right into the head on the bottle jack.
If you're using a floor jack, go for either the above or any portion of exposed frame... No real difference.
If you're using a highlift, go for the bumpers... (or your nerf bars if you have 'em)
Of course, best practice is to place it where it won't slip & squish you. [ June 05, 2003, 08:18 PM: Message edited by: 4xGeek ]

It's done. Piece of cake. Took about .5 hr...including wiping up multiple spills here and there ;-)
Didn't have to jack it up...taking the skid plate off helped a lot too.
Thanks for all the advice!

Phew. I thought you were back here asking more questions, and someone was gonna have to scream go change your oil already
For jackstands, under the front lower crossmember and inboard of the rear spring perches, right on the tube. [ June 06, 2003, 12:28 AM: Message edited by: adam ]

One way to minimize the mess when you loosen the oil filter is to make a catch basin from the bottom of an old coolant jug or other appropriate container. I think I made one out of the bottom of a gallon milk jug. Just stick it right under the filter and you'll find that keeps the upside down oil filter mess to a minimum.

Yeah, I'll definitely do something next time. My nail trick didn't seem to work too well, or I didn't give it enough time. Something I did do, after all was said and (I thought) done... I tried starting, and it started, but immediately died. I was like "crrraaaap. Now what". So I started again, and it stayed this time. Went through this a couple times...then I notice the CEL was on, and it clicked. I forgot to plug that wire back into the air filter box after checking my filter. Plugged it back in and it fired up like a champ! On a positive note, I found a K&N filter in the box...which iz nice. Thanks again everyone!

k & n filter box? Can you give me some more info on this.
Also with spills, something that i'm particularly fond of is castro superclean. It's a highly concentrated purple solution. after the spillage wipe it well, spray it with the superclean, dilute to specifications or leave a bit stronger and spray the underside let it sit for 5 min and hose off...i'll look new!! if you don't dilute it, it'll eat thru paint hoses and everything else. Use it to clean the truck quad and jeep. Works better than simple green. My o2 cents
