True stories....fronts are compressed and rear are turned. Been there/done that too many times in the last few years or so.

The first time I did a brake job on my trooper I tried to compress the rears with a c-clamp. I thought the caliper was frozen. After I took the whole damn thing apart I checked the book and discovered that the piston had to be screwed in The book was not very clear.

I suppose they had a good reason for doing it that way, but it is definitely a trap for the unwary.

There is a handy tool (the "cube"), which takes all the fun out of it.

Oh yes, stabbing yourself in the hand with needle nose pliers is so much fun. Anyone with a 1G Trooper that does their own work owes it to themselves to avoid such good times & pick up this cheap tool:

Immobilizing the caliper while turning, as Meat stated, is key. I had a problem with the pistons in mine not wanting to budge and needed to use a breaker bar with the cube to get them to move. I currently have the problem of a sticking e-brake and I suspect it has to do with the auto adjusters being siezed.

I've got the same issue with my Trooper. Is this a replace the caliper sort of thing? Or a rebuild of something? (read: what's the cheapest route to fixing this?)

I also have a sticking E-break and mine are less than a year old. I've used "Kroil" (WD40 x 10) in my cables to release them and discovered that it is the return spring that is faulty. I tried everything to make that spring do its thing but it is one old crusty son of a . I've decided that I will get my E break system functioning properly and then remove the cables and store them in my house till inspection time. My troop is an automatic so I never use them and they sieze up every year. That should solve my problem

I initially thought that was part of my problem. I replaced the spring (#8-94238-596-0) and the plastic bushings (#8-94479-600-2) but still the same situation.
