I've posted a couple of questions lately regarding my 2.8 to 3.4 change over plans, got some good and useful feed back, however I still can't get a clear answer on the issue of the original computer(ECM).
I would like to find out from those of you who did it what exactly was required in a way of mating new engine with the original controler,
or maybe a different one was needed all together. I've read some conflicting stories on this specific issue <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
As added info: I want put in 3.4 engine with 4.3 TBI
into my 91' Trooper LS Auto.
Help me out guys, I realy need some hints on this one.

The original computer works just fine. The 2.8 to 3.4 swap is a basic long block swap. With drill and tap the holes for the starter. With a good O2 sensor and 4.3 tbi, your computer won't know the difference.

- is it brand new?

- how much did you pay for it?

- if I where to ask for a 3.4 engine to replace my 2.8, which type of 3.4 should I ask for?

If you looking for info regarding the 2.8 to 3.4 engine swap there is a lot of it on this bulletin board as well as ITOG. For starters the 3.4 engine comes from model year 93' to 95' Camaro or Firebird its also refered to as VIN "S". Provided that you have Auto transmission in your Trooper its a direct bolt-on application. On the outside it is virtually same engine with the exception of the starter which has to be swaped over to the driver side for Isuzu application.
Most of the junk yards will have the type of engine or you can look on the net for it. Either way they range in price between 300 and 600 hundred $ depending on the condition of the engine. I myself got a cheaper one because am planning to rebuild it from the ground up so I know what I got on the inside but you may want to just get a newer power plant so all you have to do is install it.
No matter how you look at it is a great upgrade for the tired old 2.8, it will actually provide the truck with an adequate power it should've come with form the begining. Highly recomended modification.

It works just fine with the manual. Just off the top of my head I know of three 3.4s in Troopers with the 5 speed - Perosi, Wombat and me.
