Need a Spot
Hi, Everyone.

I called my dealer last week, to arrange a "first service" on my new Rodeo. It has 1500 miles on it, and I thought it was time for a first oil change. The service manager told me that "the factory recommends leaving the break-in oil in for the full 7500 mile service interval".

In looking around at some of the Honda boards, I did find lots of comments about Honda being one of the only auto makers that still use break-in oil, and that they do reccomend that it be left in for the full service interval.

Any comments?

Thanks,
John_Galt

Do your first oil change at 3000mi. It will be pretty black & nasty by then anyway. From then on, it's your call on the interval. IMHO, 7500 is too long for these engines. Their are reports of those who follow extended drain intervals when running the $4-$5/qt synthetics, while doing just filter changes in between. I dont go more than 4K or so even w/ synthetic. G/luck.

About a year ago I purchased a new 2002 Honda Civic.

The service mgr. was emphatic that I leave the factory supplied oil in for the first 10,000 miles.

New rules ???
