Getting the Wheeling Fever
My '99 has had some interesting problems as of late. The idle one day decided it would stay at 2k-2.5k rpms, and has not dropped since...two weeks ago. The car has been to a mechanic several times to no avail. He replaced the IAC, but still nothing. Once ain a while, while warm, the revs surge between 1.5k and 2k, but never the 800 it used to be.
Any tips would be appreciated, as it's embarresing to drive through parking lots with the engine revving, and this has got to be tough trying to slip the clutch to take off every time I stop. Please help.

Sounds like a bad intake manifold gasket. Very common on 1998+ 3.2/3.5

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Joel,

Thanks for the suggestion. Just got it back from the shop today, and idle is now up to 3500. Anybody got a clue what the heck may be causing this. The truck is now completely undrivable. The only reason I took it from the shop was because the mechanic was "going to have to start going through some wires". No thanks, I'd rather wait. Please help me out. Runs smooth, but idle is sitting at 3500rpms. Is there anything he could have done to change the idle speed, or any mechanical thing that could do this. Really need the Rodeo back on the road soon.
Thanks in advance, Ted.

There is a grey wire with a white stripe coming from the power steering pump. It comes from the idle sensor in the pump. It is a single wire. Disconnect this wire and see if it helps.
I had the same problem with my '98. Currently I am running with this wire disconnected. It won't cause any problems for this wire to be disconnected. The sensor in the power steering pump triggers a faster idle to keep the pump operating while at low speeds. If this is the case, you may be able to take it back to the dealer and ask for a warranty replacement of the power steering pump. I didn't bother with it myself.
