So far the biggest source of oil on my driveway is the distributor. I can see the oil running down the back of the bell housing from the top. The valve cover gaskets look fine.

I got a replacement gasket for the distributor, but I have no idea where it goes? At his point I'm wondering whether RTV will work?

Check and replace the O-ring on the distrubutor shaft first. It fixed the leak on mine.

I got the O-Ring, where does it go? it doesn't look like it just fits over the distributer shaft? or do I have the wrong sized O-Ring?

If it's above the gear teeth, what did you have to remove to get to the o ring?

You kinda have to stretch the O-ring over the shaft, don't worry it's normal.

Definately make sure its the right size. If it's even the slightest bit to big or small, it will leak like mad. I got mine at a GM dealership for about 50 cents. Good Luck .

The distributor shaft O ring oil seals never worked for me. I bought a sheet of high temperature gasket material (looks like what thermostat gaskets are made of) and cut a flat gasket, which I installed between the flange on the distributor and the engine block.
