This weekend I finally got off my lazy keester and decided to get the ball rolling on my truck. I wanted to level the rear end so I made some longer (7" eye to eye un braced) shackles.
Now, before everyone scolds me for the length of the shackle, I just want to say that my hero and mentor Scott Wilson [Linked Image] ran 10" long shackles on his rig for a long time without any problems. So there [Linked Image]
Okay, here is my problem: When I sat the truck down on its full weight (on the tires), the shackles were canted to one side. When viewing from the rear of the truck, the shackles were leaning to the left.
Was this because the axle had shifted to one side slightly?
Will this straighten out?
I have NOT torqued down the u-bolts fully. Should I unbolt them, shake the axle a bit, then torque them to spec?
Yes, I installed a ubolt flip at the same time as the shackles so the axle was free to move around a bit.
Thanks for any advice!
------------------
Jim Brink - 1986 Std.
