I wanted to poll all the owners of this engine to see what years have blown their head gaskets the most/capita.

Please chose "not my year" for all the years that are not yours <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

And please only vote if you have a 3V-ZE V6.

The one on my 88 was replaced when the engine was rebuilt, but it hadn't gone bad, as far as I know.

I had mine replaced for free on my '89 only cause I could. It, to my knowledge, wasn't bad.

NOTE, since the poll states that "You may not view the results of this poll without voting", i will post the results in a few days/weeks for anyone who would like to see what they are but won't vote since they don't have a 3VZE. thanks.

edit:
...or, of course, 3VZE types can choose "not my year" for every year to see the results if they are interested. <img border="0" alt="[Hillbilly]" title="" src="graemlins/notooth.gif" /> yeah...

also, incase anyone wonders what the purpose of this poll is: I've read that Toyota started using a non-asbestos head gasket in 1990/91 for the 3VZE, which is probably what created all the problems and the 3VZE's bad reputation. This poll might result in some sort of evidence for/against this statement... and i was bored at work.

Thanks.gene.

There were actually 2 types of headgaskets out there. The original replacement gasket was also prone to headgasket failure. The third gasket is rock solid.

I had a burnt valve replaced and was told that I had the original replacement gasket. It was already being etched away. My gasket was replaced in '98 when the headgasket failed. I asked the toy mechanic if there was a way to tell which headgasket you received and he said the only way was pull it off and look. Just thought you'd like to know.....

We've had the gaskets on our 94 replaced once since we bought it in 2001. But they were replaced only a year after the previous owner had them done in 2000... I think a lot has to do with the mechanic who does the work.

I was denied warranty on the second set, even though the first set was done by a dealer and the mechanic admitted that the head bolts were very loose when they pulled them the last time....

The head gasket on my '95 was replaced, but by the PO, who was a Toy Service mgr. I don't know if the gasket ever actually failed, but the motor pulls very strong for one with 148K.

My 93 4Runner lost a gasket at about 57K miles.

The HG on my '89 was replaced almost 4 years ago w/ 152K miles. Toyota also replaced both heads and a few valves. Glad they picked up the bill.
