You could probably buy a new one for 98+ 4Runner(same as my A340F) and then use Marlin's adapter. Marlin and I looked up the cost once(I think) and it was surprisingly low. The speed sensor would have to be swapped from your A340H. Marlin and I did that. It was the trickiest part of the swap.
Maybe the only real issue is the parking pawl. It was definitely different.
What's this 500+HP???? Are planning a Chevy BB or something? IMHO it will be way more than you'll ever need or use (but high in the coolness rating).
If you're that concerned about the Toy X-fer holding up, I would reconsider the trans entirely and look at a built 700R4/NP205 combo. Especially if you're going to a Chevy motor.
Phil

I would never put a BB, or a SB for that matter. To much power through the entire range, and you can't really control it. Even with 300hp from a v8, you will break things. That is why I am using a 7MGTE. On the trail, I turn the boost way down, and with the gearing way low, I will never spool. With that in mind, rockcrawling, I will be lucky to hit 180hp. The 500+hp will only be used if getting stuck in mud sand or snow, and pulling on the highway. So, I am not doing it just for the coolness factor, it will be very functional. I just put a 7MGTE in an 85 Supra, very easy. Took 3 days. I am in process of building two 7MGTE's right now. A friend of mine has a NP205 that I was thinking about buying from him. How difficult would that be to bolt up the the A340E?

------------------
http://4x4.4t.com
It is better to make torque at high rpm than at low rpm, because you can take advtage of gearing.
