All, thanks for your inputs.
Randy, thanks for the rundown. Torque is what I don't want to lose, so I'll probably be going with your recommendation. Thanks!

Is anyone going to answer the question, or has this become the same pissing contest as all other muffler Q&A's?? I know nothing of the '86-'87 Turbo muffler that comes stock from Toyota....does anyone have any clue on this at all?? I wouldn't mind learning something new today.
You might try to Hardcore board, they seem to know older vehicles a little better. I know the regular 22RE has a smaller diameter exhaust than the 3rd Gens...but perhaps someone will chime in on experience with the Turbos.

Paul Here is the link for the specs on the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. The part number is 17747 (2 1/4" center inlet/offset outlet). I'm not sure what the muffler cost, I had mine done at a local muffler shop (not a retail chain) for about $100 installed. They let me try the Magnaflow, Flowmaster and the Dynomax each for a week and didn't charge any extra to do this. Randy

Pete,
Your factory exhaust has a 2 1/4" pipe, but a 2 1/2" will work.

Randy, great info on the Dynomax. Can you tell us where you purchased the Monza Pacesetter tip and how much it cost you.
Also, when the Dyno was installed I presume they did some pipe cutting to replace the factory unit? I would like to unbolt the factory unit and have the muffler shop create a bolt on replacement using the Dynomax muffler. That way if I sell it I can just bolt on the ole factory muffler.
Thanks again
Phil

Philly, I think you are going to need a CATBACK system if you want to do that. They are a bit more expensive, but in situations where you want to be able to switch back and forth, it's worth it. I guess the biggest pain in the A$$ would be swaping back and forth.

Sarg, you're probably right, I've used Dynomax in the past and was pleased with there sound and performance. I also wanted to keep this inexpensive and Dynomax is very inexpensive. Maybe I can get the local small town muffler shop to fabricate a system for me with the Dyno.
