bump...

what about a clogged cat? truck has 226 and original cat and exhaust. are these the symptoms of a clogged cat? after warm up it flows like crap? i thought clogged was clogged.

does carbon build up on the butterfly have something to do with it?

Exhuast leak?

maybe my timming. i'm goin to pull the cap and rotor today and see if there is corrosion. but this came on all of a sudden and i have no idea where to start. will the ECU throw diag codes even if there is no check engine light lit?

thanks for all your input

ryan

I think that the most telling sign is that it does not happen when the the motor is cold and in open loop mode. That tells me that the problem is a sensor and not a mechanical item like the cat or valve seals. If it were the cat, you would have the problem all of the time, not just after it warms up.

If it is TPS equipped, check & adjust per 4Crawlers web site instructions. Its amazing what this little piece of plastic can do. It sometimes does not set code, & will malfunction hot or cold & will effect other or be effected by other faulty sensor readings. It will sometimes be a intermittant problem & will be hard to diagnose. This is a very sensitive sensor. Just a guess. But i have had similar problems. Especially after doing any fuel system maint. or removal of such.

If there is a good bit of build-up on your throttle body, you may want to check your recirculation points.

When I took apart my engine I noticed thick build up almost everywhere. From the exhaust recirculator from the header, in the back of the engine (a cover with a "tube" in it), throughout the entire TB, I believe the lack of air and flow was my problem. Althought this problem, black thick stuff, did not come and go, the poor running of the engine did come and go..
GO FIGURE.
Good luck

WTF do i do now??!

timing? what other sensor would make it run like this..

after 3200 when running like crap it just flat falls on its face and revs out.. i'm gonna try to screw with the timming but i don't really think thats what it is..

iunno bout to take it to toyota

Body Damage is Cool
Before you take it to the stealer....uh dealer take a hammer or other suitable tool and give your EGR valve a good thunking. If it is stuck open it will run like crud at low rpm but it should run ok at higher RPM, maybe you have multiple problems.

checked the timming today and it appears to be at 8 while jumped which is out of spec. i'm goin to clean the throttle body and pull the efi fuse. i hope this will cure my ailments. how would you go about adjusting the timming? i see nothing about it in the FSM

thanks

The distributor mounts to the side of the head with one bolt. Loosen this bolt and you can turn and your distributor, advance or slow the timing by turning it in either direction.

I don't think I read it in the reply's...EFI or Carb? if carb it sounds a lot like a stuck auto choke. If EFI dose it have a MAF? if so it may need cleaning. Sounds a lot like a to rich of mixture at warm up. Sorry if I missed something in the reply's.
