okay. now i've had this problem for a while now. i'd say 2 months. i thought i had fixed it but i guess not :\
my truck will start nice and quick cold. run good for a while, heat up, and i'll sit at a traffic light and go and it will run like crap. loss of power, at 3200 rpms it just revs it also has a ruff idle @ 1200 it will sit there and idle at 500 or so and if you try to make it idel at 1200 it will shake and shutter and jump to 1400. it also shakes and shutters when you short shift it (not bogging) just low end grunt it shakes and shuters and on the top end it just revs with no power. it also is sucking up the gas.
i noticed this problem when i did my injectors. i just recently assesed that i broke my BMVS. so i went and got a new one and took off the penulim for the 6?th <img border="0" alt="[Barf]" title="" src="graemlins/barf.gif" /> time.replaced the BMVS bolted everything back up new gaskets FSM torque numbers. i am stumped . i thought today on my drive to work everythign would be sweet. about half way there it started doin it. i'm about to go to the STealership and have them check it out.
HELLLLLLPPPP
thanks ryan

What have you done so far?
Compression test or leakdown test? Valves - Rings ?
Vacuum problems? Leaking intake gasket or broken hose somewhere?
Ignition tuneup? What do the plugs look like? How is the timing?
Has it had ignition wires in the past 10 years or 100K miles etc?
Has it had a fuel filter in the past x # of miles or years?
Sort of go back to the basics to start with. If the engine internals are reasonably sound, then is it a problem with fuel or with spark? If you can narrow it down it should be easier to diagnose, and fix.

Sounds like a typical 02 sensor problem...(oxegen sensor) And your motor will in fact run fine until it warms up, then at normal operating temp. if your sensor is bad, your motor will run poor to say the least. <small>[ February 18, 2003, 09:42 PM: Message edited by: Red Rock Crawler ]</small>

ok i'm gonna start with the O2 sensor.. i have been thinking this but i never new what the symptoms would be. its not an intake leake i have thought that and checked and checked and replaced numerous times.. i will start with the o2 sensor cause that the easiest and work down the list
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH

no compression test. no leak down test plugs are fairley new. say 10k on them. ngk platinum it got new ignition wires before i bought the truck about 20k on them fuel filter... hmmmm i dunno when that was changed. i feel dumb cause my buddy now that i think about it said the o2 sensor. but never pushed the issue with me.. iunno. my mistake.
no water by the ecu. and i don't think the previous owner cut into the AFM nor have i. this truck is pretty clean. with the exception of the clear coat flakin off in certain spots.
who wants to buy her?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
thanks i'll let yo konw afte ri change the sensor and that fixes the problem <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
now if i could just get rid of that sqeek when i press my breaks and hold them 5/8 the way down. :\

As stated earlier you may want to have the cpu codes checked before spending $100-150 on a new O2 sensor. Not that the codes always appear the first time. Back in 1997 I had a similar problem, however mine was only while driving, the rpm's would suddenly drop to idle speed, and a complete loss of power, than all the power would come back. The problem ended up being the speed sensor in the Speedometer. However, the code did not register the first time at the dealership. The O2 sensor could be bad, but the a service rep at the dealer told me that the sensor either works or doesn't, and when it stops sending the signal the cpu expects, the check engine light should come on. The reason I asked is that I have had a 2 mpg loss and a significant increase in hydrocarbons between the last two smog checks on my '90 v6. Suspecting it may be the O2 sensor, as did some of my mechanic friends, I checked the codes myself and nothing had registered.
There could be other sensors going bad such as a speed or idle sensor, a code check may be the cheaper way at the moment.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

i was under the assumption that the check engine light would come on if there were any codes to be checked.. i was gonna run the diagnostics but never got the chance..
i did replace the O2 sensor and it didnt' fix the problem.
yes my throttle body does have some carbon build up ..
thanks
ryan
