I have the newer (black) TRD supercharger. TRD recommends changing the supercharger oil every 100K miles. I called Magnuson and talked to a tech there. He said it's actually possible for the oil to be OK to 100K. I asked him about GM recommending to check the supercharger oil level every 15K and change that oil every 30K for some Pontiacs with Eaton M90 S/C's. He said that's overkill, but safe. He also said that our M62's will take 4 oz. of oil and it's perfectly fine to use the GM supercharger oil (comes in 4 oz. bottles) in TRD's superchargers. But TRD puts that orange blob on the S/C oil fill plug to make sure you haven't tampered with it during the time it's still under the 60K warranty.

Well, I remember enough Pontiac forum horror stories about checking S/C oil and it's low or incredibly dirty. So I finally checked mine at 70K. It was indeed low. I suctioned out a little that I could easily reach (looked about like Pepsi), and then refilled it to the bottom of the fill hole. I took out about 1 oz and added about 3 oz. So it was 2 oz low and it only holds 4 oz total! There's no drain plug, so you have to suction it out a small tube in order to change it.

BTW, Ron S had said that the older silver S/C must be removed to refill the oil.

I don't think Ron S ever said that. It is correct though.

So when I go to a GM dealer what am I asking for -- Eaton m90 supercharger oil from a pontiac could you give me a model or year?(If the GM parts counter personalites are anything like the one at my local toyota stealer it should be fun). I have over 40k on my supercharger and it sounds fine. I thought it was best to change out the nose gears at 60k to the tune of 5 bills. I would much rather change the oil and maybe get a few more miles before doing the nose drive. How much does the 4oz's cost? Thanks Chad

I too have been idiotically putting this off. I thought I would have to go through magnuson to get it. Good post...I need info too. Will GM stock it or would they have to order it too?

Oh, OK. Then it should be credited to you. If he didn't say that, then you did a couple years ago.

According to the tech I talked to at Magnuson, it's the same oil for the M90 and M62. He said there's no problem at all with using the GM S/C oil in my TRD S/C.

One vehicle that I know came stock with the M90 is the '97-'03 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. I've heard a rumor that the '03 Grand Am GT has the M62 as an option, but I don't know any more than that. I think the XTerra also uses the M62, but they don't have any S/C oil discussions on one of their larger forums.

The GM bottle of supercharger oil is not specific for a particular vehicle. It's part # 12345982. It costs $5-6 per 4 oz bottle. Yes, Pontiac dealerships should have it in stock and you should be able to just say you'd like a bottle of supercharger oil without specifying a vehicle. If you can't find it anywhere, you can buy it for $7.50 plus shipping from:
ZZ Performance

Based on what's been previously posted at a popular Grand Prix forum (www.gp-owners.com), the S/C oil is a different animal from just synthetic motor oil. The S/C oil has foaming agents while motor oil has anti-foaming agents. And some people say motor oil ate through their S/C seals after they tried it for a while. So I'd stick with the real S/C oil.

The hard part is finding something to suction out the old oil (Windex pump head, orthodontic syringe...)

$5-6 bucks...that it? I was under the impression that magnuson charged a lot more. Can you reuse the plug/screw or do you have to get a new one? Would it be better to fill the supercharger oil parking it backwards down an incline to fill it higher or does it not matter?

The Pontiac forum says it's so easy that they all seem to include a beer somewhere in the directions. So as long as you don't get too drunk and lose the S/C fill plug, you should be fine.
