by the end of this week ill have my 37" mtr's for my truck . i dont have longs yet, but im going to wheel it anyways. my truck has been in pieces in my driveway for wayyyy tooooo long. i plan on wheeling it easy and keeping wheel spin to a minimun untill i can get longs. am i going to blow the birfs without a doubt on my first trip out or will it do ok? i know its hard to say exaclty. anyone with 37's or 35's on stock birfs, how is it working for you?

it just depends on how hard ya wheel. i was in the same boat as you.my rig was torn down wayyyyyyyy too long, got it running and went wheeling ( couldnt stand it no longer ) im running 35x15.50 SX's with stock birfs & inners with 4:88 gears w/E-Zlocker...i have went wheeling twice so far with no problems ( besides working out the bugs after the rebuild) but i really haven't gotten to hard on it yet.i just have a little feeling that if i start to GET IT! i am gonna snap something, just saving the money up right now. but as long as you take it easy and don't get any real binds,i dont see a problem

I don't see why you'd have to worry about it that much. People break them all the time, but a lot more people run with 35s without any problems at all.

Just don't get on it too hard with the wheel cranked, don't get on it backing up and don't let the tire slam back on to the ground with the tire spinning. If you're not locked up in the front, you're probably a little safer too.

Be carefull, very very carefull. First time out with mine on 35's and stock birfs, blew both birfs and the long side axle. Then again, I was on JackHammer

Location is key. Out east, wheel*SPIN* is fine. It's when you get front tires bound up and try to start spinning them (and they won't) that things snap.

Take it easy on the throttle and winch rather than start the front end bouncing over the ledge your trying to climb @ full throttle... and you'll be okay until the Longs go in. If you break one, it's not the end of the world. Just take that sides birf/shaft out RIGHT away before you go smashing the kingpin bearings and knuckle.

well i got the 37's tonight and they are bad a$$ . i had never seen mtr's unmounted. those things are think and hard as crap. i hope ill be aight with the 37's and stock birfs, but ill carry spares. i am going to keep the front open untill i do longs, then drop in a lockrite. with the front open i think i should do ok. thanks for the help.

For whatever it's worth, I have a lockrite up front and I hate it. The lockrite is plenty strong enough, but I hate having the front end locked, except for the slowest of 4 wheeling. Damn thing is hard to drive on dirt road with the front end locked, even though it's an autolocker. For slow trails it's no big deal. Still, I'd highly recommend something like an ARB or Toy electric instead. But that's just my take.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well I just put a Lockrite in the front and took it wheelin with 33" tires. Guess what, broke a birfield. I was hung up on a tree root on a hill and had it in reverse to get away from the root that wrapped around my tire. Broke the front driver side birfield. New Longfields on order due in this week. I hope this does not become a reocurring problem or I am going back to open front end. I hate to worry about breaking on the trail. Not very comforting to be miles from camp and have to change these.

i have broken 2 birfields with an open front end and 33's. so what did i do, i went to 35's and locked up front, still running stock birfs but supposedly someone is gonna be comming out with another birfield that is possibly gonna be stronger than the Longfields.so i'll keep my eye out on this.info on the product will be sometime in the near future

Getting the Wheeling Fever
1. I put in power steering with the lockrite and now it turns like a breeze compared to no power steering.
2. How does dual cases help steering 2wd?, did I miss something?
