Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey, new here.
We're moving to Albuquerque NM next week (from Burbank CA) and we need to move the 4Runner and '93 Wrangler.
How realistic is it to flat tow the Wrangler using a tow-bar (~3500 lbs I think) with the 4Runner? I have the 2.7L 4 cyl automatic... I know that a tranny oil cooler would be good, but I don't think I have time to install one right now.
Opinions?
Thanks!

Do the right thing and tow that Jeep to the junkyard! Then sell your 4Runner and get a 4x4 Toyota! Problem solved!

Kidding aside, Toyota's maximum tow capacity for a 4 banger is 3500 lbs. Toyota requires trailer brakes for trailers that weigh over 1000 lbs. So you are at the edge for pulling capacity and way over for brake capacity. If you have to travel through mountain regions you are endangering yourself and your vehicle.

I agree. You can do it, but braking is going to be a concern. I tow a 3200lb boat, and breaking is a major issue at times. I'd advise against it, but it can be done.

I was gonna sell the 4Runner and buy an older 4x4 4Runner, but I owe ~$4000 more than it's worth (according to KBB).
I guess I'm stuck with the 4Runner for a while... maybe I'll find a wrecked 4x4 and do a front end/t-case swap, and maybe a 5-speed while I'm at it...
I just found out that UHaul sells (and installs, at more charge of course) tranny coolers. Does anyone have experience with this?

Body Damage is Cool
I installed my own tranny cooler, as have a lot of people on here. It's not hard at all and probably took about 2 hours at most. There's a couple writeups on here and you can also find links to people's webpages.

I installed a tranny cooler on my '68 Cougar, that was no problem, that was also with access to Dad's garage. I have minimal basic tools (i.e. basic std and met wrenches and ratchets and some screwdrivers, that's about it) and no real place to do the work (one stall in a covered garage). I did a search on the jeep side of this site and learned about the Blue Ox ToadStop system. Has anyone heard of this?
