This is for everyone that wants to put in an aftermarket stereo amp or CD Changer in the back of their Monty without it getting stolen. After getting my amp and CD Changer stolen earlier this Spring from the rear of my Monty I have since devised a clever way to keep the thieves away from my new amp and CD Changer. Mind you this is not hi-tech by any means but if you think about it this is an ingenious way to protect your expensive stereo gear so it doesn't get stolen over and over again.
This is what you do -
Mount all new stereo gear under your back seat
1. That keeps it all out of sight 2. Back seat becomes it's own locker
Then get a 6 ft. Kryptonite motorcycle lock for sale at any Home Depot for $12 and loop the lock between the center anchor and the two metal bars that you have to pull up on to open your back seat. Loop it tight enough in there so the thief won't have any leverage to lift the seat then in turn can not get to your secure stereo equipment.
This is more of a deterrent than anything else but I am sleeping much better now just knowing that the bastard thief is going to have one hell of a time getting my amp and CD Changer out even if he does get into my Monty. My back seat is so locked down now it won't even go up an inch for the thief to be able to look under it. Hope this works out for anyone else that is sick of dealing with stolen car stereo's. Sometimes the low-tech way just seems to work out best.
Good Luck and let me know if this works out for you at all ~

Many years ago, one of the stores/race car parts chains that I worked for had a store in northern Cali (stockton?), with a unique theft devise. It's name was "Kitty" and it was a 140lb. Mountian Lion! The owner would leave "kitty" in his store at night a few times a month. I think you car would be safe from anybody except "Kitty" if you had that kind of theft devise. Just think, as you walk past an unsuspecting rig, only to hear a growl, that would make you crap your pants, and thats before you even saw it. AND, when you saw it, could you just stand there without messing yourself, or would you just run away, screaming in terror. Kary

not sure how much room and air flow there is under the back seat, but consider installing some 4" or so fans, like you'd buy to cool a computer, to cool the amplifiers. Nothing worse than your amp tripping out because it got too hot...or givin' up the ghost from excessive heat.

BLUE ARROW POST ICON. My bro put his amp under the seat. He drilled a hole through the seat frame and the part of the frame that goes up when the seat is folded. Then inserted a lock through the hole. The seat can not be folded up.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Goto a company that suplies restoom hardware or a security company that puts bars on windows. You can purchase slotted head screws that only tighten. Get the bit to loosen them at the same time.

I don't know a decent loud alarm has always worked for me except when I went on an 8 week cruise in the navy. I came back the bozo's just F <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/bird.gif" alt="" />'d up my casette player. But then again that was back in 88.
Since then I've never had a problem but I have had an alarm in all my cars.

BLUE ARROW POST ICON. That is a good idea. Where exactly would you put them?

I've seen the razor blades epoxied onto the underside and back side of the stereo unit. One of my son's buddy's did that after having several units stolen out of his Jeep YJ. One occasion he came out to take the Jeep to work and found a rather large amount of blood on the seats, carpeting and steering wheel. He came ove rto show me and ask what he should use to get the bllod out. (Hydrogen peroxide is the answer, just in case you're wondering)
