In the spirit of the last comments ideas on the tanks, I personally will avoid if at all possible any station with a tanker hooked in and pumping. I can't help but think that any and all crud and corruption that might be in that tank is being stirred thoroughly by incoming fuel and will flow just as happily into my tank. I'll go on down the road a few more miles thanks.

I think most gas pumps do have filters, and many staions are required to have a system to moniter water, temp. etc. Just my 2 cents

Although that I'm likewise sure that all gas stations have filters and monitors and etc., I also do this. We had a friend who began having engine problems, and after many stalls from a blocked fuel system she had to pay a bundle to get her tank dropped and her fuel system flushed. The mechanic blamed it on filling from a gas station getting its tanks filled and churning up crud, and she does remember filling at a gas station with the fuel truck nearby.

Of course ... I have done this who knows how many times without problems, but if possible I try to avoid it now as well. Especially at a not-well-maintained independent station.

Although it's kind of been stated above ... interesting thing about gas is that from what I understand, the reason why we have 85 octane regular instead of 87 at higher altitudes, such as Colorado and Utah, is that you can use lower octane here for the same effect. So ... even if you're vehicle says minimum 87 octane, when driving through colorado 85 is sufficient.

I've certainly never had any problems with it in any vehicle.

Exactly, Its all about barometric pressure and air density. Your actual barometer probably runs in the 25 range, mine in Kansas (1380 ele.) runs at 28.5 and the folks at sea level run around 30.
I was able to get my 93 to ping on 85 octane going north off I-70 on the Newcastle cut-off.

" They all get their gas from the same place " Absolutely not. You may see independents get gas from a major, but I dont think you will ever see a Chevron Franchise Gasoline station pumping Shell gas. An independent Chevron, hauled by an independent with a Shell Sticker, maybe. In California, I know Chevron comes from Chevron. They do all get their gas from the same place, the earth, but thats where it ends.

Sorry uzi,
Unless you live in the same urban area as the refinery (where trucks are loaded straight from there truck dock), You are getting a sponge-able product from a pipeline to your local terminal. We market a lot of product for Chevron/Texaco that comes from everywhere.
