Strange but true department. The 5-speed bellhousing from a 96-00 2.5L Dodge Dakota pickup will work to bolt any 60 degree bolt pattern GM engine up to a Toyota R150/151 gearbox. You knew that... right?

OK .... So 2.5L is Jeep motor? Right? Did a little reading at www.dodgedakotas.com forums. But do Jeep 4cyls have GM 60*v6 bolt pattern?

Short answer: Yes! 1984-2000 2.5L Jeep and 96-00 2.5L Dakota have the GM 60 degree bellhousing bolt pattern. Dakota bellhousing fits GM pattern on one side and fits the AX15, R150F, R151F, R154F and NV3550 on the tranny side.

I actually thought the Dakota 4cyl was not the same motor as the jeep 4cyl, Looks as though I am wrong.

But one of the bellhousings for the 60* v6 engines (S-10 2.8/t5 ?) will, with some slight modifications bolt up to a sm420 granny 4spd tranny out of a fullsize Chevy.
swap page to 4cyl jeep

Some of the coolest swaps have come about due to the universality of Aisin transmissions. There are a few Marlin-adapted second-gen Amigos rolling around with 3.2s backed up by Toyota trannies and transfer cases... but I'm not aware of anyone who's actually connected the dots to run a 60-degree V6 and a Toyota together with a stock bellhousing.

George made his own bellhousing, and I have modified two existing bellhousings... there are ways to do this, but you've gotta be prepared to cover new ground and work through a boatload of details, or have someone available, like Marlin, who will do the heavy lifting and adapting after you do the initial research.

I think what Randii's trying to say is that this is a very cool find for those with a 60 deg V6 (or a 4.9 Caddy) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

What about the rest of the package though? Are there issues with the input shaft spline count, clutch, bell depth, slave cylinder, clutch fork etc?

I'm NOT an Isuzu guru but I've done some digging into just what can fit what and I've posted that info at various sites. Some of it might be helpful to you gents. Here goes:

The Jeep/Dodge AX15 5-speed, the Jeep NV3550 5-speed, the Toyota R150F & R151F, the 87-92 Toyota Supra Turbo R154 and the Isuzu AR5 5-speed all share the same case to bellhousing bolt pattern. As such there are a number of possibilities that can be had when a 5-speed is desired:

94-95 Dakota 2.5L bellhousing: Connects all to any K car based 2.2L-2.5L L4 in a RWD application.

94-99 Dakota 3.9L V6 Bellhousing: Connects all to any 3.9L V6 and any 273/318/340/360 V8.

96-99 Dakota 2.5L bellhousing: Connects all to any Jeep 2.5L L4. Because of it's GM inherited bolt pattern, also works with any Buick FWD V6 and supercharged V6, any Chevrolet 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6, any Cadillac 4.1/4.5/4.9 V8 and with a minor modification, any Olds Aurora DOHC V8 and Cadillac DOHC Northstar V8.

88-99 Jeep 4.0L L6 bellhousing: Connects all to any AMC 290/304/343/360/390/401 V8 and any 72 and later 232 L6 and 258 L6.

01-03 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6 bellhousing: Connects all to any 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8 and 5.7L Hemi V8.

Isuzu Trooper 3.5 V6 AR5 bellhousing: Connects all to any Isuzu 3.2\3.5 V6

Aftermarket:

Advance Adapters: Bellhousing for AX15 to Chevrolet-Buick-Olds-Pontiac V8 and Buick V6. Connects all to same.

Advance Adapters: Adapter plate for AX15 to Ford bellhousing. Connects all to same. Also they have a plate for the NV3550 to do the same.

Novak Enterprises: Adapter plate for AX15 to GM 4-speed bellhousing. Connects all to same.

Further info: Jeep AX5, Toyota W55, W56, W57 and W58 5-speeds all share a common face pattern on the case. As such, any 88-99 Jeep 2.5L bellhousing (NOT Dakota) will bolt a Toyota W series transmission to a 60 degree GM bolt pattern.

Aftermarket: Advance Adapters makes a bellhousing to bolt a W series Toyota trans to a Chevy-Buick-Olds-Pontiac block.

NOTE: Input shafts lengths vary.

Pre 1995 R150\R151 = 6.5"
1995 up Toyota R series = 7.5"
AX15 = 7.5"
87-92 Turbo Supra R154 = 7.25"
AR5 = ?
NV3550 = 7.5"
AX5 = 7.5"
Toyota W series = 6.5"

Advance Adapters makes an extra long pilot bearing when using a shorter input shaft tranny with a bellhousing that had a longer one. Obviously you can't put the longer input trans into a bell that had a shorter one.

Front bearing covers are interchangeable between the R series, AX15 and AR5. NV3550, AX5 and W series are not interchangeable.

I'm out of breath. Time for a beer.

Minor correction! Novak plate won't work with NV3550. Trans bolt pattern is the same, but the face has a protrusion that won't allow the plate to seat properly. This is why Advance Adapters has a separate plate for the Ford.
