Chris, I don't have an Isuzu. I'm actually a Buick 215/Rover V8 in a TR7 guy. My quest for all of this info started when a gent from Australia told me the hot ticket for a 5-speed behind a V8 down under is the Supra Turbo R154. I decided to experiment and picked one up at a local boneyard for $175 plus $50 for the driveshaft. I had absolutely no idea how to hook one up to the other. Couple weeks later I went back to the same boneyard and literally tripped over a gearbox they had laying on the ground. When I eyeballed it, it looked a heck of a lot like the R154 I'd just bought. I asked the boneyard guy about it and he said it was a Dakota truck tranny. I couldn't believe they were almost the same thing. How could this be? So.. I started asking questions. To Novak in Utah. To a lot of people. The more I found out, the more fascinating the topic became. There was simply no one place that had all of this info. Now, you have the results of 18 months investigations. Randi, the NV3500 is not built by Aisin and as far as I know, shares no parts with any Aisin gearbox. New Venture gear puts them together. Now, why they have the same mounting pattern as the R series and AX15, I do not know.. but they DO!

Anyway, If you want a copy of the article I put together with photos for the MGB V8 Newsletter, send me your email address. No Yahoo or Hotmail address's. File is 10 meg.

Greg

PS. The AX5 is actually based on the Toyota G52 and shares parts with that gearbox.
